About a year ago my heater/ac started to act a little weird. At first it wasn't working at all. Then one day it started to work again, but not correctly. It would blow out the heat/ac, stop, and restart again. The intervals are never consistant and it seems rather random. Well, recently it started blowing very weakly, just enough to feel air coming out. From time to time it will work right for a few minutes, and then go back to not working again. I was told this is probably a problem with the resistor?

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks!

Does the fan blow ok on high speed?
    - Normaly if it is the resistor pack high speed works fine.

My gtp with auto climate controll (digital fan controller 7 speeds) had issues with where the air was directed as there was a break in the vacumme control line going through the wiring harness by the battery. I ended up replacing bthat line with a shorter one routed into the cabin beside the transmission selector cable, in the same gromet, made out of brake line tubing.

I always keep the blower to full. And no, it still kicks on and off for some reason, but when its on, it works good.

Change your cabin air filter, and you probably need a new blower motor. To change the cabin air filter
    1. Turn on you wipers and stop them in the up position by turning off the key
    2. open hood
    3. Remove the 3 IIRC panel clips holding the plastic on the passenger side where the wiper arm bolts in.
    4. remove that piece and you will see your clogged cabin air filter.

I have put 3 blower motors,1 resistor,2 cabin filters, and one splash shield in w-bodys in the last week at work.

Anyone had any success doing this? My problem can be explained exactly as the OP described it, same year and everything.

Update: replaced the resistor last week and it wasn't the problem, ordered a new blower motor and this turned out to be the fix. super easy fix, glad i found all this info, great forum.

When you say, "It wasn't working at all, and started to work again" Was there power at the HVAC control unit? I have a 2000 GP and it just started having these power on/off issues with the trip computer and AC/Heater control unit. Both units go dead (no LED's on either display) and all on it's own power is restored, maybe during the same drive or two days later. A random thing here.
