my car had the supposidly had the recall on the upper intake performed before I bought it, thats why I said to check its worth making a phone call to find out. Also I wouldnt drive it like that because if thats what it is you have dexcool going into your motor oil and if you have enough in there it will cause severe wear to your lower crank bearing's and other crucial engine components!
i think 99's and under had plastic gasket thats why they made the recall cause the dex cool would destroy it. 2000+ should have the metal or whatever it is but they still r common to go out. get it pressure tested.
I would check the plastic coolant elbows near the alternator before accusing the UIM.
I believe Supersport is referring to the heater bypass. That was the first thing to kick when I got my 97 GT! I thought the gasket was leaking lol!!!
intake manifold would make the temp gauge run hot...plastic gaskets were junk and there was no recall but a group launched a class action against GM and they agreed to pay some money if you got the dealer to replace it but dealer costs are high. I always thought the 3.8 was bullet proof ...had them since 1987. I read about the problem in the Auto Trader ...called the GM guy who works on my cars, had all the top end gaskets replaced...at 115000kms the intake was starting to break down...waiting for him to do mt ss monte ..about 500.00
