Hey i was looking at the GT Camshafts and thought about buying some. The thing is i only have headers and a CAI . I was curious if camshafts need supporting mods first ? And would it be more worth it to put off the camshafts until a PCM and pulley,in terms of power wise ? On zzp it said gains 20-30hp depending on your set up. Please help me out here ! Thanks !

putting camshafts in your engine would require a whole engine redesign. It all depends on what you want out of the car for the cam. I would first top swap and do an xp cam at the same time for a nice dd.

What exactly needs to be re-designed ? And what do you mean by top swap ? Thanks .

Our engine is a push rod engine with a single cam. Putting cams in would require redesigning it to be over head cam, top swap is putting the supercharged top end on the car. Do some searching and you will find every thing you need to know.

X2^?????? With am XP I believe you need to mill down the valve guides .100 due to lift. You already have headers and you will need a Tune... The Search button is your best friend here...

for an XP you just need to run modded retainers and the "special" valve seals that the vendors carry that give you 0.020" more clearance.

Only bigger cams require the guides being milled.

I would not recommend a cam for you at the moment you have no idea what you are getting into or what you want. Figure out what you want out of the car.

Let's put it this way. My car is 100 % stock besides headers and cai . I have enough money in my budget this year to splurge a bit into my GTP and am going to get this job done. I'm obviousley not buying the camshaft until i get some more research done, but that's why i created this post. If you don't have any advice to give other than steering me away from what i truly want to do then don't reply to this post. If your someone that can give me the advice as to what parts i need starting with a nearly stock base and also roughly how much they cost than by all means shoot away. I'm sure there is someone on this forum who started with a near stock base and who have installed needed upgrades to run a camshaft. That's who i would like to give me advice. Sorry to create any confusion and thanks for the help please keep it coming .Thank you .

Crow #105 Springs, Manley Retainers, Heads ported if you want. Install the cam, get the cam install kit from ZZP. Then take them all to your friend and leave them in the front seat for when he does all the work. Then have him tune it...because if he knows how to install all that I hope he knows how to tune your car so it doesn't chuck a rod the first WOT run.

    Have fun skipper.
