Hi guys. I am looking at selling or trading my 1994 Camaro Z28 and getting a Grand Prix GT or GTP. Im really interested in the GTP, but I don't want to deal with one if they have alot of problems. So my question is can you guys fill me in on all of the problems that the GTP tends to have. My GF has an 02 SE with the 3.1 so I know the basics about the regular Grand Prix's, but not the GTP's.

the 3.1's were actually kinda rare-ish in grand prixs. they only came as an option in the se's. basically you'll be getting one of the most dependable motors gm has every built in the 3800. the same can't be said for the transmission, although the ones in the gtp seem to have a little more strength/dependability than the ones in the gt/se. the gtp has a pretty good amount of potential, but it will come at a price. a basic 3.4" pulley setup isn't as expensive though, with the pulley and supporting mods, probably under $1000. as for DD duties, this car is amazing. extremely roomy interior, really reliable, and good highway gas milage, around 30 for most people. the interior is extremely plastic, but what isn't these days. i love the car, and it's never let me down
99 GT - top swapped, S2X cam. - sadly, sold
    96 Firebird Formula - T-tops and exhaust leak. 14.26 @ 97.8 - sold
2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - stock, in all of it's turbocharged awesomeness

Hey man, I had a '96 Z28. I had it for 10 months and spent $4400 in repairs and it needed about $2000 more just to pass inspection. That car RAPED me. In '05 I traded it for the GTP I have now and haven't regretted it. You can make a GTP just as fast or faster than a stock Z28, they're easier to work on, parts are less expensive, you can have more than one passenger , and better MPG's.
Like you I was trying to decide between a GT and a GTP. I haven't regretted one day getting a GTP. As long as you keep the supercharger oil where it needs to be, there's nothing to them except enjoying the extra power. Going from a Z28 to a GT would suck.

My two cents? Get a GTP.

I had an '83 Camaro in high school and college. I got rid of it about 2 days after I graduated college and got a job (about 12 yrs ago). I still laugh everytime I see one broke down somewhere because it happened to me so many ****ing times. I swear it literally drank anti-freeze.

My grand prix has alway been there for me, if it did break, it only did it in at home and it was simple fixes. even when the tranny was going out, it was still dependable car.
Life goes by so fast, so why drive slow.

O2 & MAF sensors, motor mounts, tie rods, struts, cv joint, front sway bar, wheel studs, strut top plates, headlights, taillights, HUD, DIC, steering controls, exhaust hangars, all like to go bad.

These cars can be a maintenance nightmare.
