Hey man, I had a '96 Z28. I had it for 10 months and spent $4400 in repairs and it needed about $2000 more just to pass inspection. That car RAPED me. In '05 I traded it for the GTP I have now and haven't regretted it. You can make a GTP just as fast or faster than a stock Z28, they're easier to work on, parts are less expensive, you can have more than one passenger, and better MPG's.
Like you I was trying to decide between a GT and a GTP. I haven't regretted one day getting a GTP. As long as you keep the supercharger oil where it needs to be, there's nothing to them except enjoying the extra power. Going from a Z28 to a GT would suck.
My two cents? Get a GTP.
