Hello Guys, I'm new here and just had a few question about this car.

First I'm wondering what your guys opinion is on the value of these cars, I have the opportunity to buy one for $5000 but it has 140,000 miles on it. Miles aside the car is in practically mint shape with only very small amounts of wear in select spots and while not the GTP/GXP package still seems plenty feature rich and peppy.

If it is worth it what kind of reliability can I expect from the 3800 and its transmission? I currently own a 98 Grand Am with a 3100 and 215,000 miles which has been nothing but a champ for me, I've heard even better things about the 3800 series 3 then the 3100 so I hope I can expect the same kind of reliability. (I do keep up with maintenance, especially oil changes every 3000) just kinda curious what kind of problems I should probably be expecting.

It's gun metal gray in color if that matters at all , 5000 worth it for a 5 year old grand prix with 140,000 on it?

    Thank you for the opinions!

will it last if you take care of it? yup. dont beat on the motor/transmission daily and you'll never have a problem. drive like me and youll be replacing parts because you'll always be breaking them.

is it worth $5000 with 140k on it? not really, but thats about all youre going to get out of a dealer.

    Thanks for your opinion.

I also feel the same way... its probably not 100% worth it, but with the used car market as it stands.. not going to find much. I've seen 170k miles marked at $9000! ..nuts. I'm kinda sitting at the conclusion yeah its not a steal, but not a rip off either.

I do not plan on beating on it daily, I'm past the "drive it like a race car" days lol. Although... in a few years, I would like to get a GXP or a GTP (let the price come down a little more). I'm just in love with the styling, room, and especially the interior of the car, it's very very sad that Pontiac is no more. I will miss them (this will be my 4th pontiac, each one has treated me great with the exception of one I had with a 2.3L Quad 4).

Could care less how fast it is, sure faster is more fun in certain situations, but even with just a NA 3800 in it its got a lot of pep for its size/class. I'm just hoping it will provide at the very least 2-3 years of reliable service.

I can't find anything but positive comments about the 3800 so I think I'm going to go for it, the more opinions the better though!

    Thanks again for your input

Like Bio said, take care of it, and it'll last.
Since you dont plan on modding it, atleast yet XD, it'll def. last you awhile.
Granted the money is a bit high, it's alot lower than I've seen around here (Florida)

I think it'd be worth it, the engine is almost bulletproof if you dont mess with them too much, and the trans. is the same way.
Hell 140k, its just broken in good =]
