    Okay 1994 SE 3.1

The needle on the temp gage suddenly pegs to the red, overheat mark. I stop the car and the engine is a very normal temp...no overheating. I continue driving, the temp goes down to the normal range swiftly.

Now, I notice that when I am running the heater and when the needle begins to peg to the red overheat mark the heater stops blowing warm air and begins to blow cold. A few moments later the heater starts blowing warm air again and at that exact moment the needle begins dropping into the normal range. This occurs several times as I am driving around.

I can't see any other indication or symptom of anything else going on with the engine. Not using water, oil level okay, etc.

This seems very weird to me.

    ??????????

sounds like low coolant. or an air bubble in there if youve recently had the cooling system messed with

Have you checked the coolant levels in the overflow bottle and the radiator itself?

Sounds like you have air in the system, or it is sucking air in from a leak.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have heard that it may be some kind of air in the sytem. It has used a little bit of coolant and when level it off the problem goes away.

Where could air be being sucked into the coolant system?
