On my 2001, the wipers started to not park all the way down. They stick up about 6 inches. I can hear the wiper motor running trying to park them. If i push on them, they go right down with no resistance. I read in here about a metal tab that gets bent from snow and ice and you have to bend it back. Can anyone tell me where this tab is? Thanks and Happy New Year to all

take socket to the nut on the arm. Loosen up and then sit arm down to where it is suppose to rest. Tighten back down but not too tight. Repeat for other side.

I used to have a picture of the metal tab. Seems like this happens to me about 3 times each winter. PM me if you need help fixing it.

If they are only sitting about 6" above the "parked" position, I doubt the tabs are your problem. When the tabs go bad the wipers actually park in the up position.

I agree with Toofastgs on this one.

! Why would you suggest this! There is an issue that needs to be fixed...

When you pull the cowl, you will be able to see if the tab is being caught by the arm and then the trans mechanism on top reverses itself to park the wipers. If the arm isn't catching the tab, the tab is likely bent outward and needs a tweak.

If the mechanism on top doesn't reverse when the tab is caught by the arm, then that mechanism can be replaced. (LMK I have a spare).

Lastly..if you have checked all this and it appears that nothing will cure the issue, the wiper motor does have a delay/pulse box (electronic) mounted to it. Easiest thing to do here is replace the motor/box assembly. This was the fix when my wipers parked at the top. No arm adjustment or mechanism swap helped. Overall it's a pretty easy and quick fix. If you get one from a JY, try to find a Regal/GP/Century that had a plastic cover added over the motor. It's there to keep ice and water from building up on the mechanism and causing the trouble.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks Bill. I'm sure the tab is bent as it started doing this right after we had snow and the car sits outside. I can here the motor running trying to park them but it doesn't catch the tab. I will fix this if it ever warms up here.

I got a quick question then... What causes the wipers to pause mid stroke when in the intermittent mode ? My wipers park correctly and function normally in the low and high mode. They just have issues in the intermittent modes.

not sure..even when my tab was bent it parked in the down position when in intermittent mode.

It finally warmed up around here so I pulled the wipers and the cowl off. Looks to me like the tab has departed. My wipers go almost all the way down, when parked, and a little push on them when I get out of the car, puts them all the way back down. This car is just a winter beater so I decided to leave them alone.

my wipers stuck in the "up" position during the last snow/ice. When I took it all apart...tab was where it was supposed to be...<frustration>...took armatures and motor assembly out, sprayed brake cleaner to remove old dirt/slime/grease, reapplied lithium grease, reassembled...TADA! works wonderfully...time will tell how long.
