So I decided to get off my ass and tackle this... among other things. Remember this=http://www.grandprixforums.net/f81/missing-anything-maintenance-related-kinda-long-31336.html

About three hours into it.... and totally taking my time. Had already drained coolant and flushed twice, which takes for ever for cool down. Kinda neat once you see how its put together. Haven't really hit any snags, but I'm sure that happens at assembley. Cool thing is I am pretty much replacing almost everything that I'm removing.

Just need to get valve covers off, tensioner bracket and LIM...... then the fun part!!!!
as she sits...Im hungry... dont laugh at the tape!!!

oil on lim, pass side in back
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0191.jpg
the crap that came out of above pict, theres more in there, get it later.. but I found the bolt
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0194.jpg
123K miles, this is normanl isn't it? kinda forgot to seafoam before hand.. but I'll clean most of it off by hand
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0189.jpg
this woulda caused some problems, and I wiped most of the rust away from the post
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0178.jpg
I thought there were 2 o-rings on the injectors
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0181.jpg

    post more later.
Which RTV do I use on the LIM runners?

Thanks, saw that once I got it off.

Looks like I caught it in time.... didn't notice any coolant loss though??
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0202.jpg
How do you get the non-flowing coolant port clean?
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0204.jpg
This one was completly plugged with what looked like orange wax.... spent about an hour cleaning it out/off the valley.
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0201.jpg

I stopped beacuase it sounded like a big as storm coming in... but its just alot of noise. To late, already took a shower.... and its miller time (Becks and Pacifico Clara actually)!!!!

Thats where its taking the longest... to get this **** clean. Need to get more parts cleaner/RTV.

Might be a stupid question, but I don't need to wait for the RTV to cure/dry do I?

if you get the rtv called the right stuff black its ready in minutes
but other wise no by the time you get iit all back together it should be dry enough to drive

and a wire wheel comes in handy for cleanin parts

Looks like time well spent, it is nice to see ppl doing maintenance before their engine starts to self destruct. I like pic 0201, that could be GMs pin up for Dexcool! I remember the first time I saw Dexcool I thought my water pump had exploded! Anyway, I just thought I’d comment on 0189 also. When I installed my HV3 at 40k the top of my lower manifold didn’t look much better. If you look at the residue most of the sludge seems to come from the PCV and the coherent stuff from the EGR. Notice how the right side of the pic (in real life the far side of the manifold) has more crap on it? That is because the PCV tube discharge drops on that side, Seafoam is a great product but it can’t remove stuff from this area. Keep up the fine work.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

man that dexcool deff turns to ****... and I've had mine flushed and filled 3 times. But the front coolant port thats blocked off on the lim, residue was literally like someone took a candle and poured wax on it, was like 1/4" build up. That 0201 pic was after I had removed ALOT, obviously cause it's not there...drrr drinkning as stated before!!!!

But yes this is the first time I have ever done anything besides brakes/tranny fluid/struts...CV joints were the last thing. And its all because of websites like this and awesome communities (granted I just joind this site) but you know what I mean.

SO FAR, its alot easier then I thought... but the problems come when you turn the key

Did the upper intake have melted areas from the EGR stovepipe?

See, I thought there was only one hidden bolt.. but thats why the intake plenium says theres 2 hidden. I was actually looking at it and wondering why I couldn't get it off. Only found the first one because of reading about it being covered in oil, but the dogbone mounting bolts actually stop it from being removed. Only because I'm putting the bolts back where they came from. Just so I don't have so many parts on the ground.

But so far nothing has broke, but my coolant elbows were replaced 15K ago.

I'll go look at my plenium.....
no warpage or melting, but the LIM has a metal stovepipe??
    http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/IMG_0205.jpg
LIM stovepipe, cause I was reading about the dorman intake not having a metal sleeve... niether does the stock one I have on. maybe I'm misunderstanding it???

thinking I will .... and thanks for reminding me about the hidden bolts. Your thread about the LIM oil thingy popped in my head while I was removing it, awesome sludge. Figure I'd add my experience to the world, as I've never done something this in-depth on a car before.

Good thing autozone has 2 4 1 brake parts cleaner now!!!

I was thinking about putting the L26 upper in, but seems like alot of fabrication...... time which I don't want to bother with. That'll come with the turbo

My words exactly. If it was plug-and-play, I would obviously do it. Just too lazy.
