Thread: Electrical Shorts in Wiring

Hello All Grand Prix Enthusiasts......


I just recently joined the forum to hopefully get some help on an issue I was having with my 2000 GTP Coupe. About a week ago I began experiencing some issues with the DIC display as well as the TCS shutting itself off intermittently. The transmission also began experiencing some performance issues and temperature control faults. I had taken the car to a transmission repair facility to troubleshoot the problem and took out around town with the mechanic. It turns out the transmission is fine but the problem was actually due to two wires in the harness had rubbed through the insulation causing a short and thus creating all the havoc. The area where the wiring harness rubbed through is around where the air conditioning piping is located. You guys and gals may want to visually inspect your wiring harnesses for any wear under the hood!!

there's a TSB for this exact issue, you're talking about that harness that's near the a/c line and under the airbox correct?

Yes...that is exactly where the crime happened. Thank god it was a minor fix and not the computer!!

Hmmm, I'm going to check mine. I have not had any problems yet. Thanks for the info.

Wow thanks for the info.. I've been having transmission problems as in it sometimes kicks and I have to turn the car off and then back on to get rid of that. Can you please point out the location of the wires you are talking about? I'm not familiar with the a/c location you talked about. Thanks
