OK so my radio backlight went out a while back and I think I want to try and repair it. I need to know if anyone knows how to do this or if one of ya'll could point me towards a write up.

It's actually quite simple to swap the light bulb for the display light. The face clip for the stereo is just held on with a few tabs. Gently pry each tab, and pull the face plate off a bit. You will see a circuit board right above the display with a socket light bulb in it. Twist it off/out with a small/thin flat head screwdriver. Sometimes they're stubborn, and twisting them off/out with needle nose pliers works better. I usually just snag some out of the junkyards (plenty of tape decks around here from that era of stereo), and replace it with one of those. Otherwise, if you want to remove it and put a brand new bulb in there altogether, you'll have to solder to remove the old one, and solder in the the new bulb. Far more of a pain in the butt than installing a prefitted socket bulb.
