So I got my plugs and tstat swapped out this morning and went for a little "test" drive with the scanner hooked up. According to the scanner I had a max of 0.7* KR and that was a split second before shifting to second. So to recap I've installed a CAI, 3" catted DP, 180* tstat, and AL 104's. My goal is to run a 3.4 pulley and have 0 KR. But before I swap pulleys I want 0 KR. So I guess next on the list to save up a little cash and get a front PLOG. That should put me right where I want to be before swapping pulleys and getting a tune to maximize everything. And before I get hounded about headers, I'm not going any further than the 3.4. This is my daily driver and I want to keep things safe and reliable. And I believe that headers would be overkill for my goal.

Just a FYI for ya man...0.7* of KR on a stock pulley with mods means you're still gonna have some even with a PLOG when you get the 3.4" IMO. Get that custom tune man...it should get rid of that KR before the PLOG...oh and if you have a dremel tool you can hone out the stock front manifold for free See if that gets rid of your 0.7*...

DIY dont you have to keep it the same shape that it is already? and would that be as good as a plog?

Not really. The problem is where they collect, its not big enough to support all 3 of the cylinder's exhaust flow and there is really no way to hog that part out without hacking the manifold in half and welding it back together afterwards.

My PLOG cracked at the welds within 8 months of installing. It was the standard plog with hi-temp paint.

Personally, I would say to do more exhaust work and get a tune, if you wanna go plog fine.

    I still run a 3.8" with headers/rockers/springs/fwi .... Why you ask?

Cause I dont have my tune right yet. Until I get it dialed in, I wont get a 3.4"... But when I do the tuning process will start yet again. But I ran a 14.05 before headers!

Good stuff, I bet your faster than most 3.4 set-ups. Just goes to show that it isnt all about the pulley which people want to change right away...

I'm just syaing you get rid of the imperfections in the casting from the factory. When you look at a stock maniold you know what I mean...I didn't say it was going to take care of it but it should kill the .7* of KR.

I figured I would do the PLOG and then I would get the 3.4 and tune together to finish everything off. That sounds logical and should take care of the KR, No?

Everything I've read on the front manifold pretty much says they are trash and do nothing but restrict the front bank of cylinders.

The PLOG is a good mod...I say headers but thats me because you'll kill any KR you have now and probably with a 3.5" without a tune...but that's just MO on the matter

If I was planning on going any further than a basic 3.4 swap I would for sure get headers.

FWIW, ill say its a known fact that the front is more restrictive. First time my motor blew, it was the number 1 piston ring land completely gone. Second time, number 5 exhaust valve blew out. One could deduce that its not just a coincidence at that point, the front bank was running hotter because of the front manifold.

i'd skip the p-log crap and go for headers. With the prices of headers nowadays, it makes no sense to run a cheezy p-log, stock crossover, and stock rear mani (which ain't that great either!). Just my opinon. Spend a couple extra bucks and have a better setup, get headers.

BTW, a front mani can be cleaned up a bit, so can the rear. I have a set of ported/ceramic coated manifolds sitting in my garage that a fairly nice. I plan on putting them on my black car one of these weekends. There not worth selling because no one will give me anything for them.

I ran these on my car years ago, back when I was dumb enough to believe manifolds could be modified to be as nice as headers... Obviously I run headers now....

And BTW dhall, kudos for properly scanning your car and wanting your car to run properly before doing a pulley drop. Not many people are up to this task, most want to throw on a pulley as there first mod and blow there **** up....

what are the cheapest decent quality headers and where could I get them from? Can these still be used with a downpipe which has stock O2 sensor locations and high flow cat? I would like to keep all sensors stock if possible......

There are MANY threads on here about headers...just trying to keep this on on track for the guy who started it...try looking for the ones where we talk about it as it was been discussed A LOT
