Well Im kinda short on $ and want to be able to throw out the k&n drop in filter and clamp a cone filter to the tb, I have heard of this before and was wondering how safe and effective this mod is, would it be a good idea overall to just remove the tubing from the stock air box and leave it with my pcm, and filter and just clamp the cone on?

Sure you can do that. You can put a cone on the TB. The size of the TB is 3.75 inches.

you can do it but with your limited amount of modding it might not be the best intake.

your blower whine will definitely be a lot louder though. i love my open cone.

X2...it's better than a stock box but probably not as good as a FWI for your car that is basically stock

    You'd do it with a 3.2" setup...like a cam or Meth

id do it on any setup since im a jackass like that, but it really becomes effective when you get past the basic 3.4 setup.

you will pick up a lot of heat from the exhaust crossover that will be right below it.

doesnt matter if youre intercooled or running a smaller pulley than a 3.4 or so. having low IATs is not really that big of a deal once youre decently modded. anyone that says "the coldest air possible, regardless of bends" is a moron, straight up. around the 3.2 pulley range, flow helps more than anything. i bet if i had an FWI right now and switched to an open cone i would pick up 5-8 whp, if not more.

I know for sure if not actual HP gains you get a **** ton better throttle response and all you hear is that damn blower whining twice as loud

that is why i will forever and always say that an FWI is only a good mod for a lightly to moderately modded car. anything past that should skip the piping and shove the cone on the throttle body.
