I rarely see 220 on my daily drive... but have seen 210-215. Just make sure fluid is full, and you change it.

When it gets 220... be easy on it. No need to blow your trans.

you think it could have something to do with my pacesetter cross over being super close to the trans and heatsoaking the trans temp sender and or radiating heat onto the trans case?

I personally dont think fluid type is going to help that much in temp reduction... but others might chime in.... 2 guys I know that have helped me do work on my car laughed at the Dexron VI i put in... b/c 10k miles into it ... it was brown like molasses and all burnt up.

So from my experience, I dont think the fluid type is the major factor, rather that you change it on a maintenance schedule.

Remember, the fluid is supposed to be red.... not brown.

When you're getting hard on it the torque converter is making a lot of heat. Just lay off and cruise to give it a chance to cool some. The stock fluid cooler built in to the radiator wasn't meant for constant beating on it.

And your headers will not heat soak the temp sender. It's deep inside the trans away from outside influences.
