Well, this is my first post. My daughter has a 3800 98 GP GT. It was leaking antifreeze and seemed to be coming from near the water pump. My husband it trying to remove the water pump, but is having a problem removing the last bolt that is behind the power steering pump pulley. Do you have to remove the power steering pump to be able to remove the bolt? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Moved this to the correct area.

No, you dont have to take off power steering pump. There are holes in the power steering pump pulley. You have to rotate the pulley around until one of the holes lines up with the bolt in the water pump and then you can get a socket through there and remove that last bolt.

Its a little awkward but it works.

My husband said the last bolt he is trying to remove from the water pump lines up directly even with the top edge of the pulley. By rotating the pulley he still can't get a socket on it. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Its been a while since I replaced my water pump but I dont recall having that issue. That said, maybe a swivel would work if he has one. I may have had to remove the power steering pump to get the water pump off but I dont recall specifically.

If you do have to take off the power steering pump, then use the holes in the pulley to get to the bolts of the power steering pump. I think there are just three bolts holding it on there. That should give him enough clearance to get any remaining bolts out of the water pump.

Well, we finally got the water pump replaced this morning. Let the car idle for a long time and NO LEAKS! So, a few hours later I drove the car in town came back home and it's leaking antifreeze again. Any suggestions?

Well, after doing some more research online, we think we've figured out the problem.
The plastic upper intake manifold has cracked. I guess it's a common problem with this motor. Anyway, I hope after replacing it, that fixes our problem.
