My gauge is dead too. Ive read multiple threads here and elsewhere that you can buy just the sending unit with the float for around 80-90 dollars, and just swap the pump to that. Ive read its an ACDelco brand. Problem is, I cant find it anywhere. All I can find is the sending unit with pump for like $400.

So ya, any help would be great.

The problem is in the sending unit on the pump assembly. You can replace it with another fuel pump assembly for around $300-350, or go find a used assembly and just yank the sending unit out of it.

Apparently all you need to do is clean the contacts on the rheostat...found this after some digging. Read post #7

^ that is a possibility, but by no means a "sure thing" (like me and Becca, for instance) <kidding>

I would agree that you're sending unit is bad - and that you can either A) replace the entire pump or B) get a sending unit out of a used pump. Personally - I'd go with A, because you have no idea what your getting with a used one - and for the amount of work involved - it would suck...a lot...to have to tear it open again just to replace the pump in the end.

You and Becca? Arent you like 40?

Anyways, dont know what else could go bad on the sending unit, looks like a pretty straight forward cleaning to me....I dont know, just staying hopeful I guess. Dont feel like dishing out 400 for a new pump assy.

If the cleaning doesnt work then Ill stick with my trip odo.

Easy with the old man jokes, dammit.

I would give cleaning it a try - you're only out time - and not money. So you really can't lose.
