okay, next question. how fast do you want to go? with enough money these cars can run 10s, but youll need A LOT. most people shoot for 12s, which is where im at. anything faster and it's just retarded to drive on the street.

well, for the 12s youll need at least headers, rockers, a FANTASTIC tune, the correct pulley, and enough traction. you can do it without a cam or intercooler, but you need to know how to drive the car very well and you need a spot on tune.

i am adding meth injection and e85 (~105 octane fuel) on top of basically what i just told you and am hoping to run a high 12 on street tires.

i would start with an intake, plugs, thermostat, and whichever set of headers you want to pick. that'd bring you to an easy 3.4 pulley area with a good tune. from there it is up to you to go with a cam or an intercooler. an intercooler is basically the best mod for this car that you can buy, but without a few breathing mods youll end up running more boost than you want if that is all youve got.

from here youve got a bunch of choices on which parts you want..i suggest used or home made to keep your wallet fat.

whatever you do just dont go off droping supercharger pullies with out supporting mods. your motor might go kaboom

One of the first things you'll want to get is some kind of scanner so you can keep an eye on KR(Knock Retard).....INTENSE-Racing.com: AeroForce Interceptor Scan Gauge

    Cheap mods will include: a homemade fenderwell intake ($20 - $50), reprogrammed PCM ($100 - $200), Autolite 605's or 104's($10 -$15), 180* thermostat ($7 - $12), U-bend delete ($20 - $45) 2.5in or 3in downpipe ($80 - $200). With these mod's, you def. feel a difference without spending a lot of cash. If you have the cash, scratch the downpipe and get headers.

a couple of simple things to help ya out for moding.

    1. get air into the motor (intake)
    2. get HOT air out of the motor (headers)
    3. move air around in the motor better (cam, rockers, heads)
    4. put colder air into the motor (intercooler)

kr develps because to much hot air is in the cylenders. if the hot air cant get out then its going to have spark knock (kr)

free up the flow and get the hot air out of the engine and that will allow you to drop some pulley sizes saftly.

a tune pulls your mods together. it also helps at first because all cars come econemy tunned. but i would spend money on other things first. intake and headers on my car pretty much put me in the 13's. but i have 3.29 gears and a gen V supercharger.

that is false. its not the heat, but it can add to it. if you look up predetonation then youll be able to read up on what it really is. old school guys call knock 'pinging'. basically the crap in the cylinder ignites before the piston reaches top dead center and tries to push the piston back down when it is on it's upstroke. if you have the chance, try listening for it sometime. if youre knocking enough and you listen for it you can almost hear a popcorn popping sound, which is the knock. if you can hear it pretty well, you definately know something is wrong.

yea but mainly hot air and bad octane cause this. the hot air ignites the spark plug before it is supposed to be ignited, and low octane has a less tolarance to igniting. thus igniting before its supposed to.

heat and bad octane are the main things that cause this for our motors. if its not the hot air then why do headers help so much with kr when they can get all that hot air out, same with an intercooler, drops kr tremendiously because its putting cold air into the motor.

to my knowledge kr is the cause of preditniation in the clyenders (sprak knock)

    taken from the kr sticky
Knock sensors are used on some engines to detect detonation (also referred to as ping). When the knock sensor is activated by detonation, it sends a signal to the engine control computer which electronically retards the spark timing until detonation ceases. This spark retard reduces engine efficiency which reduces horsepower an fuel economy. 100 octane Unleaded Racing Gasoline can provide you with higher octance and therefore solve the horsepower and fuel economy deficiencies.

that would be the spark knock im refering to in the cylenders. thus when that happens knock sensors pick that up and pull timing. kr.

the best ways to avoid this on our motor, or probably most motors, is one, use good octane/fuel. two move air around in the motor and out of the motor more efficently, three put colder air into the motor.

why once you do these to our motors does it reduce knock.

    What is detonation / knock?

Under normal conditions, the combusting air and fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber ignites in a controlled manner. The mixture is ignited by the spark, normally in the center of the cylinder, and a flame front moves from the spark towards the outside of the cylinder in a controlled burn. Detonation occurs when air and fuel that is ahead of the flame front ignites before the flame front arrives because it becomes overheated. Under these conditions, the combustion becomes uncontrolled and sporadic and often produces a pinging noise, or a "knock" noise when the conditions become worse.

thats what i would call spark knock. to much hot air in the cylenders.
