hey what would be the smallest s/c pulley i could put on without doing any other mods. we just bought the car, so next year at tax time, i plan on doing headers down pipe cold air intake. plus will probably pull the top of the motor off and redo all gaskets. and put 180 thermostat in it, and colderplugs, wires and coil packs. but yeah whats the smalles tpulley i could use now, and how do i remove the pulley?

stock gtp... i only would use the stock pulley. even with a stock pullley there is probably still some degrees of KR with a completely stock car. dont drop any sizes yet, hold off until you get more mods.

i/m actually thinking of finding me a donor motor, and send it to my machine shop, and order forged internals. i would like to try and make me a hopefully bulletproof motor. i will probably buy a transmission aswell and have a tranny shop rebuild it with hd components. but thats next years plan. so i will plan on not touching the pulley till next year then.

No need to do forged internals for these cars. If you have that kind of cash though you should be buying a scanner.

leave it stock until you do some other mods first... one of my gtp's has a 3.4 with a K&N, nothing more... runs great... dont forget to service your supercharger once in awhile

GTX's came optional with a 3.5 pulley, but i wouldnt do that unless you had a way to get it tuned.

The only reason the GTX comes with a 3.5 pulley is that it has a tuned PCM, RAM Air, and mostly likely the 2.5" catback exhaust.

For a completely stock car, you are going to blow up the motor sooner than later. But if you are suicidal have money to blow, go for it and report back to us when you blow up your "bulletproof" motor.

Stick with the 3.8 and work on getting your exhaust, air intake and other mods accomplished before dropping a pulley size seriously.

i bet you money i could put a 3.4 on a car with an intake, plugs, and thermostat and be perfectly fine for a very long time. 5* of knock on 10 pounds of boost will last quite a while before anything happens.

besides, ram air does nothing and neither does the 2.5" catback. they were tuned differently though?

Keep it stock, and do all the upkeep on it, and all the free mods. this will get you adjusted to the car.

also it will make parts last longer. keep it reliable!

I donno why people insist on getting a pulley as soon as they get a GTP, I don't get it. Whats the big deal? More damage to the motor and a slower car? I guess thats cool huh?

If your not going to mod properly, you have no reason to dick with the stock S/C pulley period. Leave it alone until you are properly modded. Otherwise, leave the damn thing alone and maintain it.

You gotta pay to play and stay together too!

<sarcasm>Apparently GM didn't know what they were doing and stupidly put too large of a pulley on when they could've added about 20HP by putting a smaller one. Stupid GM, I guess. </sarcasm>

its the easy, lazy, and incorrect way to get more power. there not aware of the knock it will cause because of the stock parts on a gtp that hender flow.

i would do a 3.4 on a stock gtp. then id put an intake, plugs, and thermostat in it and run it as is until i could get a downpipe. then id run that. tuning is key here.

well yea tunning. something that was not mentioned. but what is the point of running a 3.4 with no supporting mods with less timing to make it run good when you could add more timing to a 3.8 and maybe run faster

because i guarantee you that stock vs stock, except one has a 3.4 pulley it, the pullied car will ALWAYS be faster no matter what the tuning situation is.

Massive KR could very well make the car slower than with a stock pulley. Not only that, you start chipping pistons with all of that pinging and I guarantee it's slower when it doesn't move.
