2000 GTP. Lately under acceleration (freeway on ramp) I've noticed a vibration. It's worse when I go through a dip and the ground is rising again. Also, the vibration goes away completely when I lift my foot off the go pedal. I'm thinking drive axles? There is no low speed grinding when turning, I've had it up on stands to check bearing and all four wheels are good. A arm bushings all look good and the struts where replaced a few yrs (maybe 15k miles) ago. Anyone else have this and figure out the cause? I hate to swap parts to diagnose, but I have been unable to find a for sure cause of the vibes. Thanks!

I'd lean towards an axle issus too.

Make sure your motor mounts aren't shot either, causing the engine to rock/tilt to the side and throw off the axle geometry.

Did this start immediately after any work was done or anything was changed on the car? Has the problem gotten progressively worse?

I also think it is a CV axle issue, but there are other possibilities.

Lots of people suggest pulling good OEM shafts from the yard.

No recent work, just gradually came on. If I'm doing it, I'll just get New ones. They aren't that expensive.

No, they're not. Get the Delco ones then unless it seems like a fun job the first time.

Sauk knows his sh*t here. I've been through two "brand new" axles on my driver's side (one from advanced auto parts, one rockauto). They were both too short actually which is strange for the driver's side since you'd expect that for the passenger side with the hd differential, not the driver's. I should post the pictures it's hilarious!

OK, now that I can log in again I'll post an update. Finally got the chance to work on the car a bit. Replaced both CV axles (and rear brakes as well). Had to buy new tools to get the axle nuts off. Right side has been replaced for sure at some point, as it had a Napa sticker on it. I'm pretty sure that one was still OK, mostly because of what I found on the left side. I'll post a link to pics below. Left side inner boot had loosened just bit, and started puking grease sometime between October and now. I couldn't get a good angle to pop the inner cup out of that damn clip, so I ended up just pulling the axle apart in the car. One of the three bearings came apart immediately, and looking inside I found several of the needles floating around in the grease. I'm actually amazed it wasn't making more noise/vibrations. I've kind of been going back and forth with myself, as the vibrations seemed to come and go. Actually, mostly it was a small enough vibration that I thought is was just the crappy snow tires/rims I have on it right now. So, if anyone reads this in the future, my symptoms where not that bad, but the axle is toast. Vibration under acceleration only: check your axles. The job took about 8 hours, but that includes two 20 mile trips to town for tools and lunch in between. Of course, rear brakes only took maybe 45 minutes.
