Well I started lapping valves and I think I have an issue. Looks like I ground too far into the chamber. The exhaust seats were bad and took a lot of grinding. It doesn't seal all the time. I shut off the lights and use a flashlight behind the valve to see if light shines through. Well it does in certain positions. I'm going to try and post pics using google.

What do you think can be done with this? Valve job, new head or just leave it?

shop can change the valve seats and then do a valve job on the head.

Crap. Never again will I port a head. All well looks like I will have to save up to have valve jobs on both heads.

    SHIIIIIIIIIIIT

My dumbass should have had my heads checked before I spent 20 hours porting. They are both cracked. I had my back up set checked and one head is cracked.

I will probably just buy some already checked and cleaned ones and put them on. I don't want to keep buying heads from a junk yard and them be cracked also. 2 different sets of heads I had and 3 out of the 4 were cracked. I wonder if most are like this??

thats a good crack. some will say to just run em, most are not a issue unless its huge and split wide open.

Thanks for posting that Scottydoggs!! I was thinking about running them but just about all of the cylinders have them and the seats need to be reground which the guy at the shop said could make it worse. also with the natural heat expansion they will only get worse... Sucks I might just save up for the zzp ported ones already

I have done a ton of research on this and I think I'm going to get a valve job on them ported heads and run them. It seems that virtually all the 3800 heads are or will crack in this area. I contacted the heads place in the link about being sure if I order them I don't receive ones with cracks in the same area. They replied we magnaflux the heads and we do not repair unnecessary cracks that will not affect performance of the head. So it seems to me that they know of this issue and cut the seats in those heads anyways. Any opinions before I take them back in?

I had 3 out of 4 heads with cracks in them. I told the local shop to run the best ones and do a valve job. That was a year and a half ago and so far no problems. I think as long as you are not overheating to expand and open up the crack you should be fine.

I'm dropping off the ported heads to get a valve job today. Ill just run them and wish for the best. I hope my port job doesn't affect performance negatively. :/
