I went and bought 30 gallons of E85 this morning. it cost 1.999 a gallon. I was hoping that since it went up .30 cents a gallon from last fall the ethanol content would be higher than it was last fall. still 70% ethanol.

How much are you guys paying for E85? and what is the actual ethanol content?

Feel lucky the spec now for E85 is merely 51%. It USED to be minimum of E70. Now many of the refiner/blenders stuck with the E70 standard but most retailers found out that selling @E51 is E50 fails miserably. According to my chart if blended w/87 E70 can be from 95-100 octane but I'd still be conservative till you read how the engine likes it.
A friend of mine built a fuel sensor gauge that hooks to flex fuel sensors, and will give temp and ethanol content. He has been working on a third reading based off of the combination of ambient, fuel temp and ethanol content.
    Good luck

I do feel very fortunate that the ethanol content is 90%. Overkill built an ethanol content that ends up costing like 250 does your friend use an auxiliary input to data log it on the hp tuner? I have the ethanol content kit and was going to install it on my 2008 GXP, just haven't got to it, but it would be interesting to have it on my 2001, would make it convenient to see what the ethanol content is without having to test it.

    http://www.aviationfuel.org/faqs/alcohol_testing.asp

Fill a clean container with gasoline drawn from the fuel system of the affected vehicle then fill another container with
water. Only a small amount of fuel is needed to perform the test (5 ounces of each fluid).
Slowly draw 3cc of water into the syringe. To remove air, draw at least 5cc of water, invert the syringe and
squirt the water out until the top rim of the rubber plunger is at the 3cc mark.
Slowly draw gasoline into the syringe up to the 12cc mark.
Place your finger over the tip of the syringe, vigorously shake the syringe for a minute. Relieve built-up pressure by
    removing your finger.

Place the syringe on a flat surface with the nozzle pointing up, allow the syringe to stand for one minute.
If alcohol is present in the fuel, it will separate from the gasoline and dissolve in the water. This water/alcohol mixture will
be in the lower part of the syringe. Record the reading at the boundary of the two liquids, refer to the table below to
determine the percentage of alcohol in the fuel.
Empty the syringe and rinse thoroughly with water, allow drying and apply a silicone lubricant to the rubber plunger before
    storing.

Boundary Line % Alcohol Boundary Line % Alcohol
    9.0cc 0% 5.0cc 45%
    8.6cc 5% 4.5cc 55%
    8.1cc 10% 4.1cc 60%
    7.7cc 15% 3.6cc 65%
    7.2cc 20% 3.2cc 70%
    6.8cc 25% 2.7cc 75%
    6.3cc 30% 2.3cc 80%
    5.9cc 35% 1.8cc 85%
    5.4cc 40% 1.4cc 90%

Or you could just use any container, use the same proportions and do the math...

or or just get one of these, place inline with fuel rail, and whoola! Lol...
