the tube need to be sealed tight or it will suck air not oil up. you need to get that cleaned off inside there good. some kind of scrapper is needed.

if you mean the block where the pan meets use a razor blade to scrape off any stuck on crap.

I had no problem getting the old gasket/rtv off where the block/pan meet. I'm talking about the little return tube gasket, half of it ripped off onto the actual tube (which I was able to sand off), the other half is stuck to the block. Can I just sand that too? My razor blade scraper does absolutely nothing to it, just passes right over.

Oh the oil pickup gasket I think is what he's talking 'bout. Just use a gasket scraper.

got a sharp chisel? use that, or a screw driver or pick to pick it off there. or even a razor locked in some vice grips or pliers of some sort works.

Tried that, the gasket material hardened and caked on there after 12 years just doesn't flake away using the scraper. I'll try a screwdriver and lightly hitting it with a mallet. I'm just scared about nicking the block. Gonna feel good to be done after this one LOL. I had to do lim/vc gaskets back in february now this. I swear if this car needs another major repair in the next 6-12 months I'm taking it somewhere.

chisel will pop it right off, with a palm hit to its handle. wood chisel will do the trick.

Nope, I don't go this. Last time I try doing something this big myself. Had the block and pan all cleaned off and RTV'd, put the gasket on, went to stick on the return tube and gasket and my sweaty hands dropped it. Figured the return tube gasket would just fall on the floor, but NOPE. Its lost in the abyss I mean I have no idea where this thing went.

How fast do you need it? I have like 2-3 for the pickup tube.

Its in my garage, turned all my lights on and everything. I can't believe I lost this. The place where the tube goes is just open space right above the garage floor. There's no crevice it could have fallen into or anything. I did have the oil pan gasket on, so I thought it fell into that. Took that off. Nope.

why would you put the gasket on then the oil tube? oil tube first, then finagle the gasket over the oil tube.

I read that its easier to remove the gasket by taking off the oil tube first, and then replacing it first before putting the gasket back on thereby eliminating the need to shimmy the gasket around the tube to slide it on.
