Hard to say, I'd want to guess at the ignition switch but that is just a guess.

They do cause very crazy electrical problems sometimes.

How long have you had the stereo?
Some people have issues after installing an aftermarket stereo..

What module did you use. It's pretty common as I've followed at least 15 different people that had the same or similar issues. Usually has U1000 codes when you pull them.

What is the U1000 code? Will it show on a regular OBII scanner?

You can clean your battery terminals and make sure they stay clean, but is more of a system related issues rather than just dirty ground unfortunately for whoever decided to switch to an aftermarket head unit.
The code is for lost communication and there will be another code with it too to identify the lost communication source, some cars are equipped with CAN bus, I believe GM started to use this in just about every vehicle in 2008 reason why you experienced issues with the Silverado.

U1000 series codes are loss of communication codes. There's a bunch of them, and if you go through the audio section you will see some of the common ones mentioned.
