On gloves, I started wearing them years ago so the boss wouldn't realize I was up til 2am working at a shop. Before that it was scrubbing for a long time. No one likes sweating to death in them, but they are so good for not getting the dirt embedded.
I ... tossed the older pooch in the car.

Theres one in every crowd! Ask where the MSDSs are and study hard. If nobody knows... run don't walk away. Certain solvents can't exit the body once they are in. More problematic for real men's offspring possibly... than the Dad.
I've heard every glove excuse including nausea. To each his own. Employers are required to provide personal protective equipment if they require hands in solvent.

Hate wearing gloves, have no kids, will take all the chemicals...brake kleen, carb cleaner, parts solvent, oil, antifreeze...besides, if I did procreate, would you really want another one of me?

Reckon I could go either way on that one Vagman. Again... to each his own. Smooth hands are easier on lady parts, I'll say that.

Lots of chicks dig a strong pair of workin man hands but not if they scratch her all up. So wearing gloves is less about being one and more about getting some!

Monks and the Pope get laid more than I do...no worries there.
Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
I agree, gloves aren't ideal all the time. Yet..when aiming to keep yourself cleaner they work fantastic.

I know where the msds book is, I printed it out. As an employer I will provide my employees with everything they need to be safe and healthy, but I won't be cramming OSHA regulations down their throats every time they sneeze without their safety glasses on. I simply refuse to hire idiots, proven so far by zilch WComp claims. :)
Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
Employees don't have to be idiots for comp claims to happen, because accidents do happen.
I was building a pallet one day. The nail hit a knot and blew through the side of the board and embedded into my wrist.
Another guy was cutting plastic off a pallet and the knife caught a weird edge and jumped and he gashed his forearm.
Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
Accidents happen to the best of us, yes. But a lot of it can be weeded out by filtering employees better in regards to common sense. That was my only point. And why I have no problem paying wc premiums. But I don't have anyone inhaling freon or snorting thinner, I would like to think because guys like that don't pass my idiot test. And I KNOW people like them are employed elsewhere.

X2.
When I worked in auto shops, it was mandatory to wear gloves and I've gotten so used to them, I wear them 90% of the time. For those who have issues with having grip with gloves, try a different brand or get the right size.
I miss Chase lol

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
Well, the car finally got a good hand wash. First one since last fall.
Also did a clay job on it.
Taking a break now to eat, then after that it depends on the weather on it I can get started on the compound.
I am debating on whether or not to go over the whole thing with rubbing compound, then polishing compound, or if I just start with polishing compound, then go back over areas that need it with rubbing compound.
The lazy me just wants to do polish, but the OCD me wants to do the whole thing with rubbing, then polish. UGh!
Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
I'm in the dirty boat still with the GTP, but she rarely goes more than a month without a de-funk. And the noisy tire boat too. Mixed up tires suck but if I score some I always get wrecked and they ruin em.
bandook, you are correct. Some guys don't need to be around the stuff, especially if you're buying. I've handled car paint for 27 years but that doesn't mean I did it right even once. FWIW thick nitrile gloves that suck are about all I've found to keep safe with if painting all day every day and swimmin in thinner. Now I just do the occasional primer squirt and thin gloves are toast before the cup is even clean. Today I cleaned some glaze coat off my spreader and mixing board without gloves just once so I could say I did to you guys. After a quarter century, I'm full of it literally!
Spent most of the week fussing over this rear spoiler fit, don't ask. These cardboard wheels seem a little wider than the wooden ones did. Next week-rear bumper"ettes" and left fender junk. Gotta be right for the lights... we're gettin there.
