Last week the key fob on my 04 stopped working. Replaced the fob battery and checked at the store to make sure it sent out signal and everything is fine on that part but still wont lock or unlock anything. Took it in to get looked at and they say there is a sensor in the door that is making the car not receive the signal from the fob. Does this sound right or is this a little strange?

Side note- My keys to my car have never unlocked my door since owning the car. Will lock the car but not unlock. My original key will not unlock the trunk but the key I had made last week will unlock the trunk. They say this door sensor will fix that issue as well. Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Mike

how long was the fob battery dead for? if to long it may need to be reprogrammed at the dealer.

as always check for a blown fuse.

The receiver is above the radio. The actuator that receives the signal from the receiver is in the door.
Can't be the actuator because some doors worked before. Maybe the receiver??? But damn they should have told you that!!

    receiver >>>> http://parts.nalleygmc.com/showAssem...rimLevel=15209

The clip that holds the battery to the little board can break loose from the solder points. Make sure they are solid. I had to re-solder mine.

The key fob battery was never dead, I just replaced it to make 100% sure that was not the issue

Last week the locks just stopped working and I had the fob tested to make sure it works so it definitely is either the receiver or the actuator. I am thinking the receiver went out since the doors all still lock with the key but this one has me pretty confused if that is not the issue. Is the receiver a pretty easy thing to replace?

Just got a call today from the dealership I took it into and they say I have a defective actuator. A family friend who had a scan tool said that the actuator in the door was bad as well since he could lock and unlock the door with the tool. I am told only a dealer can install this and it needs to be programmed so it is looking to be $400 all together. Does this seem correct to you guys or a little fishy? Thanks for the input so far!

do the door lock buttons work the power locks as they should? if so i call hog wash on the actuator.

In the car they work when the car is running and they work I believe right after you shut the car off. If I remember correctly, I dont think they work if you shut the car off, shut the door, and then open it again and try to use the door locks.

id go play with the lock buttons, for both doors. if they work car on, car off. the actuators still work.

ive never heard of the receiver being in the door? or a actuator not working stopping the rest of the locks from working.

but then again its 04. kinda like the 97 its that bastard year model change year.

my 98 has a bad back door actuator, fobs still work. and its unplugged now and still works just fine.
