    Hi guys,

I have a recent recurring problem on my 98 GTP. I will go to start the car, the key will get stuck and the car will go dead electrically. No power to anything.

I remove the key using the release below it, I disconnect the battery for 20 minutes, and then I can start the car normally.

The battery is fine, the ignition switch was replaced two years ago so it should be good.

I think the vehicle's security system (passkey/passlock?) is killing the power to everything.

Any ideas as to what is happening and how to fix it? Any and all help much appreciated.

Sounds like a poor battery connection.

Assuming everything is tight right, what will happen if BCM unplugged.

Perhaps, I cleaned everything pretty good. My battery is a die hard platinum with add on side posts. I heard the positive terminal can fail, so that can be causing a fail on start. But if it is the battery connection why would the car just go dead and refuse to come to life until some time has passed?

Doesn't this imply that the security system is getting tripped? Also, does anyone know what security system is in the 98s? Not sure if there is a resistor in my key or in the ignition itself.

Not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting a loose connection? If so, where would I check for the bcm connector not having come loose?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

A bad BCM can lead to nonstarting and cutting power to some, especially the BCM work directly with the security system.

Thanks for the help. It was the positive terminal on the battery. It failed completely today. The car shut off while driving it. So much for having bought a spendy Sears die hard platinum a few years back.

The side adapter terminals on these batteries cannot be trusted. The batteries last, the terminals do not.
