    All,

I just did some repairs this weekend to my 01 GTP. Coolant elbows, wheel bearing / hubs and a window regulator with motor on the driver's side.

I had 20k on my recently replaced MOOG from wheel hub bearings and the passenger side went bad. Turns out that MOOG has a 3 year warranty so I got the hub replaced for free. I had a slow coolant leak so I changed the coolant elbows and it turned out that one of them was cracked by the o-ring. Wheel bearing and coolant elbows turned out to be a success.

My driver's side window did not want to go up sometimes so I changed out the window regulator and motor today. I think I might have misdiagnosed the problem as I it happened once later today while running some errands. Could it have been the switch instead? I did not think the switch was the problem due to the fact the window would not go up or down when I would encounter the problem. I figured if it was the switch that only one direction would be an issue and not both at the same time.

Do window motors typically stop working all together? Could my window switch still be at fault?

    Thoughts?

sounds like a dirty switch maybe. try some electrical parts cleaner, take the switches off the door, unplug them and spray them down from under the button. let it dry off and try it out.

if it still acts up it could be a pinched wire in the doors rubber boot door to car body.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Need to pick up some electrical contact / parts cleaner.

Hey- I've actually got a similar problem and could use some feedback. My rear-right window started falling down a little while back. The motor was making noise when I tried the switch but it couldn't go up. I have had the same issue on a previous Grand Prix (same window even) and knew that it was probably motor/regulator assembly. I replaced the assembly today with a new one. I could tell the old assembly was part of the problem because the cable was broken on it when I removed it.

However, when I went to check if the new one worked- I got nothing. I tried both the drivers switch for this window and the rear-right switch and both gave nothing. I even reconnected the harness on the old assembly to see if I had any power in the harness and got nothing. All other windows work fine.

Does anybody know the proper way to check if there is power getting to the motor? Should it be 12V going to each wire on the motor harness?

if you have a simple 2 dollar test light, work the switch and poke the end of the plug. if it lights up you have power.

if its got no power its time to trace it back and look for some damage to the wires or the plug end.

    Hey Scottydoggs,

Thanks for the feedback. What I ended up doing was taking the motor from the old assembly (because I knew that the motor was still good) and using that as a test piece. It worked...and when I switched back to the new assembly it did not work. I'm concluding that the new motor is bad. Unfortunately the assemblies are different enough that I can't use the old motor with the new assembly. I'll have to try and get a refund for the new one I bought on e-bay.

    Thanks again!

well that blows a little bit. but then again parts do come bad brand new right out of the box sometimes.

im sure if you pm the seller he will ship you a new one. he should anyways. if its from a larger store type seller.
