Interior parking brake rattle

About 2 weeks ago, I developed a rattle in my car. Took me a while to pinpoint where it was coming from but it ended up being the parking brake lever. More specifically, the cable itself seems loose and is able to move around a bit causing the rattle. If I apply the brake just enough to set it, the rattle goes away.

It looks like something might've fallen off. This is what mine looks like, can anyone possibly snap a picture of theirs /offer a solution? This is the last squeak/rattle that my car has (other than a squeak that happens going over bumps which seems to be coming from the inside of the front right door panel)

I can get you a pic of mine but I don't think you're missing anything. It would seem to me that the cable not returning to rest as it should is causing the rattle if thats where the noise originates (where the cable attaches to the pedal ass'y as shown). My approach would be to check the e-brake cables starting at the other end to confirm that the park brake mechanisms are releasing properly and that the cables are free to travel with no binding.

I forgot to mention that one of these was attached to the pivoting area. I shoved it back in there and it would temporarily stop the rattling but it eventually makes its way loose.

Sorry, your post slipped my mind as the day went by. Heres the pic I should have posted to begin with. Man, beware its SCARY. Wow, look at all the fuzz! How did you ... is that from ... man your car is a LOT cleaner. Anyway, here is how the clip is installed on mine, I guess GM put it there because our clips look the same. Doesn't look like a special clip, just a bulk foldover nut. I learn something new here every day. If your clip is falling out, tweak it with some pliers maybe? Jam some pla-doh in there? Just kidding on that.

That's a little disappointing. I was hoping that something was supposed to screw in to that thing. I was shoving it up a bit into the point where it actually pivots because that part is loose. I can even wiggle it around to reproduce the rattling sound

Nothing to stop you from putting a screw through it or a little zip-tie or two might hold it together. Maybe slide some small O-rings over the cable end? Just suggestions. I use the one in my pic every day and haven't heard a peep.

Tried the screw method, haven't tried zip ties yet but thats a good idea! For now I just disconnected the parking brake switch so it can stay slightly engaged without getting the "parking brake engaged" message on the DIC

I've never checked into adjustment on that, but there might be something. Maybe a piece of vacuum hose over the end of the cable and two tiny zip ties then check for binding and proper operation. Thats probably what I would go at it with just to stop the rattle.
