    Same stuff here in Wyoming. Its a liquid ice melt they mix with sand and also spray on. I know its not SALT and we don't have the rust issues.

    we use liquid calcium chloride it rots cars just fine too.

    they also use beet juice. PA is good for that stuff, it stains the roads a redish maroon color all year long.

    I have an 05 Grand Prix GT with 325,000 kms on it now (that's 200,000 mi.) and it runs just fine, and has absolutely no rust whatsoever. The car looks nearly brand new. I think one of the secrets has been mentioned already, being frequent washes; but another solution we use in Ontario is to oil-spray the car on the bottom with creeping oil. It makes the cars a little dirty to work on, but it's worth it for sure.

    And they just DUMP the salt on the roads here in Ontario!!!
