Thread: is this safe??

can I used body filler while heating the garage/barn with my EPA certified/ sealed woodstove? does that constitute a fire hazard/the fumes if I apply this while heating the area with a woodstove. its not like im going to go over the stove an dump the can in there, im just wondering how flammable the fumes themselves are.

I ask because the can says do not smoke or use near a source of heat, but If the source of heat is 10-15 feet away Im guessing its going to be ok?

it worked out just fine. that wood stove really does a fantasic job for heat. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT, never going back to stinky and expensive kero. I bought 2 cords of split, chopped, and delivered firewood for $60 per cord. its in the 20's outside the garage was a warm 60+ degrees with NO insulation at all. 5-6 logs= hours of hot heat. it was expensive to put it, $1,200 for the class A chimney and $700 for a brand new stove but if I live here the rest of my life it was worth it. kero is $5 and if a gallon lasts a little over an hour if your out there for 4-5 hours you just spend $15+ for stinky, noisy heat. the stove itself is silent and if you use the blower its much less noise then a kero heater. $60 cord of firewood lasts me a long time as I'm not living out there.

the only thing that sucks is that its not instant heat. it takes a little while to get heat out of the stove but once you have it going it keeps going and going. I have no regrets putting that unit in and I recommend it to anyone that spends time in there garage in the winter. just do it right, spend the money on the chimney black pipe through a hole in the wall is just plain stupid and unsafe. also buy a good, sealed, efficient EPA stove with burn tubes. oh yeah and keep the gas can far, far away.

jeeze. well it was 60 degrees when I left the garage, it was still climbing. with that kind of cold, -10 it would still do the job but insulation would be a must.

by the way I actually strongly dislike winter and the nasty, corrosive crap they put on the streets and the rusted out junk that goes along with it. to this day I have not been able to fully wear an engine out. the body always seems to go long before the engine even with proper maintance, I can make the body last allot longer but eventually rust catches up. I want to live somewhere where I can keep a car for 3 or 400K, believe me if I could I would. I hate replacing cars its such a waste of money. I also get sick of looking at all of the junk on the roads. if I sit in a parking lot and watch cars go buy 8 out of 10 will have ugly rot holes. its really disgusting how much personal property the salt destroys, this is 2013 and you mean to tell me that they cannot find something non-corrosive to use, lol. they want your car to rot out because they are greedy little trolls who want youre tax money, and by greedy little trolls I mean the NY state GOV. they charge sales tax on used autos and its a huge money maker. when I bought my 91 cavalier convertible I had to pay tax on it, the car is almost 30 years old. think of how many times an old car changes hands. they get all of that money but still cry broke. they spend all of that money on welfare and pork projects.

lol so if you think I like NY think again. NY sucks, I would gladly move down south were rust does exist that is if someone offered me a steady job with a good wage.

Come to Western South Dakota, we don't use salt or sand on our roads and we have a lot of rust free cars. They use some powder stuff, it just makes everything all milky white.

Same stuff here in Wyoming. Its a liquid ice melt they mix with sand and also spray on. I know its not SALT and we don't have the rust issues.

I have an 05 Grand Prix GT with 325,000 kms on it now (that's 200,000 mi.) and it runs just fine, and has absolutely no rust whatsoever. The car looks nearly brand new. I think one of the secrets has been mentioned already, being frequent washes; but another solution we use in Ontario is to oil-spray the car on the bottom with creeping oil. It makes the cars a little dirty to work on, but it's worth it for sure.

And they just DUMP the salt on the roads here in Ontario!!!

Which is likely still some form of chloride.

Regular salt is by far the cheapest which is why it's still used.
