There's an empty school building not too far from where I live - and it's where I do most of my work. Despite my best attempts to clean up after every job, it seems like I'm always dropping things, missing things, or otherwise losing them. Decided to take a closer look around to see what I could find:

    The school

    Sway bar endlinks

    Brake line?

Broken vac line and some plastic piece

I'm sure there's more if I looked more closely.

haha you have a specific parking lot where you do your car work? You even bring a bunch of tools, jack and jack stands? What if you do something that makes it not able to run or drive until you get parts? Take a hike to the parts store? You must live somewhere without a driveway or something.

It's the former Grant Elementary School in east Dayton. It was only closed a couple years ago but the parking lot is already starting to get grown in. The only use it sees these days is either (1) as a staging area for construction vehicles and (2) when I'm out there working on something.

I seriously do my best to clean up. But I keep finding stuff weeks or even months later. Kind of like when I leave tools under the hood for weeks at a time.

this is how us people with out a drive way or garage have to do to get things done. apartment life does have some major down sides.

i do a lot of stuff at a friends house, but the small easy stuff i do in the lot, rotated tires, did my brakes, did its first tune up, did the p/s pump, and the coupler, blend door actuators changed a clock spring and wheel and air bag and a air bag module, the seats and a alt, all in the public lot.

oh sea foamed it there too. i really thought the fire dept was going to show up. i got the stink eye from about 50 people that day lol

It did seem weird to me, because I've grown up where we have driveways and garages. I've never had a garage to work in personally, so it's always been a driveway. Which still seems 100x better since in that driveway is a garage with plenty of tools, as well as a garden hose for coolant flushes. I just cant get a car in the garage because it's half wood shop, half normal garage with tools. Plus even if I didn't have a driveway, I'd work on it in the street, not a parking lot. He probably lives off a main road.

Yep, sadly but truly I've spent more than my share of summer afternoons working on the GP or some other car. Previous owner was very scrupulous about waxing and cleaning his car regularly. And the upholstery is immaculate, even at 212k. I just wish he was as scrupulous about maintaining the stuff under the hood.

Apartment life does suck in those respects. But I'm outta here in six months if all goes as planned, so yeah.

Haha yeah don't even try and do it unless parking is allowed on the street. I could imagine someone pulling onto a 4 lane road and just stop and break out the toolbox lol

I've had to do this too many times to count. I keep a fully stocked trunk of tools.... just in case. Its nice that people stop to ask if I need help, then I pop the trunk and they usually just look at me funny and drive away. I'm a Mobile Mechanic in a GTP its funny because it usually gets worked on more.

Don't think it's only you. I try to keep the garage cleaner than it usually is and even on the best day, I find a bolt or part at the door waiting to escape. And they do..
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I cleaned up my garage last week. I can't get the whole car in, about 3/4 max. I feel your pain.

But it blocks me from the wonderful ND wind... Unless it's blowing West.
