Need pictures to be able to tell you what you need to buy so it can be fixed.
But figure you will need new valve covers and gaskets, new vacuum lines and a new wire harness. Maybe even a new upper intake manifold and some throttle body sensors.
ok, the car is still at the dealership, i will get pictures up when i can. but you would recommend buying it back?
Yep these things are well known to have engine fires. My first 99 GTP went up in flames with an engine fire too. Luckily I had full coverage and State Farm hooked me up with a nice fat check for much more than I paid for the car. I ended up buying the current car which was basically mint and in ten times better condition than the 99. I agree with Elite6 that it all depends on how bad it burned and how much you like the rest of the car. How good of condition is the body and interior? Plus how much skill or recourses do you have to get it fixed? In the past three years I've learned how to do pretty much everything inside a 3800 engine bay but three years ago when the car burned I didn't have clue so I didn't want to mess with it. Basically if you love the car and its not toasted too bad and have a lot invested into other parts such as suspension, trans, paint etc. you may to keep it and repair. If its toasted pretty bad and the rest of the car is in disrepair I'd let the insurance company take it. Best of luck![]()
Parts seem to be fairly cheap for the GP's, so a buy back and motor swap may be pretty economical. Or you could possibly pick up a second donor parts car and then scrap off what you don't use.
well i went through my insurance, and they dont allow buy backs on fire-damaged vehicles.........
so i didnt bother to take pics, since i cant buy it anyways... sorta dumb i think....
Did you figure out what caused the fire? I've heard of them happening for all sorts of reasons. Leaking valve cover gaskets, leaking injector/fuel rail o-rings, etc.
It could definitely be worth it if the fire was put out quick enough and was isolated to just the engine bay. Did your hood have one of those fire smothering mats on the inside? I've never been certain of just how useful/useless they are in case of a fire.
