Alright, is there any possible way that i can fix this gas panel rust without replacing the quarter panel? I bondoed all of the rust and sanded everything down about september of last year, had it professionally done by my uncle (i helped) but alas, the rust has already returned. Paint is chipping away and the bubbling is already back. This is a coupe, so quarters in michigan are hard to come by that aren't completely destroyed. Any advice?

Cut out rust, weld new metal in, sanding, body filler and primer/paint it, while trying to blend it.

The reason it came back is because you put bondo right over the rust.

Are we talking sawzall or torch? then just weld in a new piece of sheet metal?

so your uncle didnt prep it right or use por-15 to help keep the rust away? untell you coat the problem with por-15 you will keep this up for a long time. please read up on por 15. it stop the rust and makes it hard like steal again.

But its pretty involved and if you've never done it, it might not be a good idea to do it yourself on your own daily driven car.

i figured as much. My uncle buys and sells auction cars, he does the body work, but never buys anything that needs this intensive of a repair. it's really frustrating, the rest of my car is essentially flawless, and then i have this hole in the side that just ruins it.

Just use an angle grinder to cut it out.

I like the Por 15 idea better since he seems (no offense) somewhat inexperienced at this, plus the fact that its next to the fuel system and you guys are telling him to use cutting wheels and welding new panels in just doesnt seem like the best combination.

So for your sake OP just Por 15 it and then go ahead and use body filler, sand it, and then go ahead and blend the paint and what not.

I can do that, I'd rather not try something I've never done before on my car. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into the por 15 stuff
