So I walked out to warm my car up. I opened the door and just stuck the key into the ignition, turned it forward and my car didn't start. There was just a loud humming noise for about 3 seconds. All my dashboard and interior lights came on. The car beeped to let me know the door was still open. So I know it isn't the battery. My heat even came on.

The car was just working perfect the days before so I don't know what the problem is. I was doing some info searching and I saw something about a security feature where the car assumes someone is trying to steal it so you have to leave the key in the ignition for 15 minute or something like that. But has this ever happened and how can I fix this?

Still sounds like a battery...possibly a starter. When it gets cold out, the battery may not be able to supply enough amperage to crank the engine.

give the starter a few good shots with a hammer, then try to start it again. or if you have someone to turn and hold the key, while you hit it works also.

    What year and model?

When you turn the key, no click or you get a click from the engine bay?

On the battery, it definately could be one.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

It could be the battery or starter. Since batter is easy to check and cheaper to replace. You might check it first. Even the lights inside works, your battery might just not have enough amp to crank the car. Cold weather contributes to this. You can get your battery tested pretty easily. A lot of parts store can do it for free. Does the car try to crank? If so, it is very likely to be a bad battery.

The humming noise could be your fuel pump working normally.

Its a 1999 GT. There was a click sound before the humming noise. No cranking from engine start-up. And like I said the heat even began to blow because I had the heat already turned on from the night before (Don't know if this means anything)

The battery is still fairly new. Probably about 6-7 months old.

Sorry for the late response guys. After i left it for about 15 minutes or so before trying to start it again, the car started like usual. It drives fine like before...I'm thinking maybe it was just that fact that it was really cold out.

I'm not going to suggest the way to fix this is ... not start it while it's cold.

If it happens again..try turning on the headlights 5 seconds, then off and try to start it. This would be a battery test.
