Hello, I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix that just had the fuel pump replaced and fuel filter amongst a million other things and just today my car wouldnt start. I turned the key and it wants to kick over but wont and I heard a hissing noise from the rear. I then took the access panel off through the trunk to see if any hoses came undone and couldnt find anything visible. I was getting ready to leave work when this happened. And I couldnt see anything under the car, no oder of gasoline and no visible puddle. Im thinking there is a vaccum leak from the fuel pump line because the car had been sitting almost two years before I got it on the road again. Any ideas guys on what it could be and/or how much it would cost, if i do it myself, and if its easy enough. I know a lot about my car but not enough to know everything. lol

The hissing noise is when i turn the key just to listen to the pump they stops when the fuel pump stops. Also could it be my gas cap? But I was thinking it wouldnt be because I didnt throw any codes.

The sound is just the fuel pump itself most likely.

Make sure you have good spark and fuel at the rail. You could try unplugging the maf and seeing if it helps start it.

The plugs and wires were just changed and MAF sensor as well. Do you think that the hissing noise could be a hose coming from the fuel pump?

If the sound only happens when you prime the fuel system and that when the pump turns on, its prolly just the pump.

My fuel pump makes lots of noise.

you have fuel at the rail? have you checked yet?

do you have spark? have you checked yet?

if it cranks, the first 2 things to look for are fuel, and spark.

IF you open your hood, and with the engine cover off (if you have one) there is a fuel rail with a valve you can push in and see if you have fuel there.

Here are pictures of both NA engine and the supercharged motor.

ok, lets slow it down a bit for ya.

on the front of the engine over the top of it is a metal tube, it leads to the injectors on both sides of the engine. on the front side, closest to the bumper, on the tube, you will see valve cap, much like a tire air valve cap. ( but larger) take it off, you will see a needle in the middle, take a rag lay it over the valve, then push the center needle part with a screw driver, if gas shoots out with force, your getting fuel.

to check for spark, take a plug wire off one of the coils, rest it so its 1 inch from the metal tip of the coil, crank the engine, look for a spark to jump to the wire from the coil.
