    2005 GP GTP

I'm looking at putting in an aftermarket stereo for the first time, and I was told by BestBuy that I needed the $105 GMOS-04 wire harness because the factory harness to the radio controls other things like the Airbag, etc. I just have the original stock stereo, and I do not have the Onstar controls. Has anyone else ran into this? Or have first hand knowledge of installing an aftermarket stereo in the 2005?

GMOS-04 will allow you to keep you RAP functionality, and your Door Chimes. It also has the harness integrated to easily add Steering Wheel Controls (Still requires the ASWC Module as well though).

If you don't care about those things and want to cheap out, you can run the 70-2003 harness. This isn't totally plug and play though, because you need to find a switched power source someplace (I typically go direct to the ACC wire in the ignition harness.)

Either harness shouldn't have an effect on your airbag functionality.

My recommendation is to do it right, buy the GMOS-04.

If you purchase it with a stereo from Crutchfield its only $49.99.

So if I go with the GMOS-04, and the SWI-JACK (For steering wheel controls), then I should be good to go?

You'll also need a 40-GM10 Antenna adapter, and a Dash Kit (Not sure the number on that one.)

Yes. I'll have the Dash Kit and Antenna adapter as well.

One last question... The Metra ASWC or the PAC SWI-Jack? Is one easier and/or better than the other?

Oh...And are there different GMOS-04 harnesses? I see some that say Onstar, and some that say amplified. So are all GMOS-04 harnesses the same?

There's a couple of generations, make sure the one you get is the latest.

Go Metra for the ASWC. It'll plug right into the gmos, and you just have to cut 2 or 3 wires (follow the manual!)

Ok. I lied. One more question. If I don't have the Monsoon system, is the GMOS-04 still required? I believe I only have the Base Model according to the owners manual.

If you don't have the monsoon system (no speaker in the center of the dash) you need the GMOS-01 instead of an 04.
