I'm replacing the thermostat in my '05 GTP, and I was wondering if getting a thermostat from Advanced Auto for 7.99 (Standt Superstat) will do? Or should I stick with the AC-Delco? I called the parts department at the Chevy dealer here, and they wanted $71.50. Seems a little steep.

Also...to drill or not to drill? I'm also seeing a lot of threads and google searches where people have drilled a 1/8 hole in the 180 T-stat. Is this something to consider?

But a 195* Superstat and do not drill it.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Why a 195 t-stat? I see a lot of recommendations for a 180, and that's why I bought a 180. I'm not putting it in until this weekend, but if there's an excellent reason for sticking with the 195, then I'd like to hear it.

I see some people say the gas mileage is worse with a 180, but I know my GTP runs A LOT better when the engine is cooler.

oh, and if you mean "cooler" like when below 160* and the knock sensors aren't on yet then congratulations on your new motor purchase.
