I dont think you can shut it off.

Unless there is a way with a Tech 2 scan tool.

    Find a used air bag?

Turn car on, mark position on cluster of the light.
    Remove cluster...
    Remove light
    Reassemble cluster
    Reinstall cluster

Free, not too tough and no more light.

Since you pulled the airbag, you don't appear concerned about the loss of it.. so you are all set. No more light.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

look I really enjoy your sense of humor, but to be honest the ****in bag ain't gonna do much for me other than paralyse me. I already have back and neck problems, and I'd I get hit in the face with a stupid ass air bag its not gonna do much good towards keeping me safe. and where is the cluster? I don't know much about air bag systems, i know body repair and audio systems and under car care, but not much else. but learning though lmao

The cluster is the gauges you stare at while you drive.

    You know.

    The speedo.

The tach, how about the fuel gauge?

Remove that and take out the SRS bulb.

Airbag saved my life...I'm not dead.

Seat belts weigh a lot too.

    Try yanking those out.

    Whooopeeee.

i just passed NJ inspection with the airbag light on, so NY may let you slide.

they only seem to scan the engine not the body of the car so much.

Sorry.. the instrument cluster is what I was referring to. Totally understand that you don't want the airbag as it sounds it would be detrimental to have.

If you pull your dash trim panel, like you were doing the radio. Then there's 4-5 7mm screws that hold the cluster into the dash. Wiggle it forward and disconnect the one electrical connector, then it should come the rest of the way out. Since you've done some stuff on cars before, it should be reasonable to get into the cluster and remove that one bulb.

OP, you will have no problem passing NY state inspection without the airbag. Also, if need be, next week I'll be about 30-40 minutes from you over the border in PA and can meet up to help out. I know all about back/neck issues and had to do an airbag delete in my mom's 06 Explorer for the same reason.

i wonder if you could put a jumper in the wires that lead to he airbag to fake out the srs system.

or cut and loop together or something. i have no idea if this would work, just thinking out loud.

Unfortunately that wouldn't work Scotty, but you're on the right track. The SRS module is looking for a specific resistance from the airbag to know it's there. However though, if you put an ohmmeter to an airbag, it has the opportunity to go off and cause some serious damage. Removing the SRS bulb is probably his best option.
