I may get some hate on this and i'm prepared for that.

But as i start to get more into the car world i'm looking for something different. I love my GTP, It's got some balls and to me looks great, but the auto trans is so expensive and it's just a nade. It's kinda heavy and it's FWD.... I was thinking maybe sell it and look at a nice 2003-2005 WRX or some other car that is RWD/AWD manual. This doesn't mean i'm gonna drop my GTP and go running after one no. Like i said i love my GTP and will continue to mod it and take care of it.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on selling your beloved Grand prix for something different and why?

    Thanks guys!

I looked at other rides in my price range, about $4500. Some were comparable, like a BMW 5 series. I found out about the VANOS (variable valve sh*t), and the two clean ones I looked at were both bad. I looked at others, like the Ford Fivehundred AWD, 3.0L.

See, every other car also had it's problems. Why I may stick with the 3800 cars for a bit.

Oh yeah.. I worked with a kid that had some ridiculous turbo STi. Lots of mods and at an autocross, the timing belt broke. Bent or broke just about everything he said. Another friend that's a rural mail carrier has gone through several (seriously, like 5-6) Subie Boxer 4's. All pooped the bed inside two years. That, and the millenials think they're the bee's knees. Me and STi don't see eye to eye. Others swear by 'em.

If you going for easy to work on, reliable, fast RWD at the price range. LS1's can be had. I am not to familiar with the Subaru platform in terms of reliability though. I do appreciate factory power adders!

The boxer engine has issues with blowing heads and head gaskets, it really likes to do that.

Timing belt issues 99% of the time come down to user neglect. I've worked on and owned many timing belt cars and have never had one break. Usually it breaking is caused by another part failure (water pump, tensioner, etc) because it wasn't changed at the proper interval. He probably spent all his money on mods and when maintenance time came decided to forgo it.

As for the boxer engines from everyone I know that has had one they appear to be pretty reliable. The biggest issues with Subies from what I have read is the glass transmissions.

    ^ Anyway...

I agree with stealthee, and I think spazz has the best point. Is this purely hypothetical or are you looking at similar cars?

Should look into a lancer evo if you're looking to mod, can handle higher horsepower better than the boxer in the sti. Plus the Evo doesn't have that "dudebro" reputation the STI has.

I would put the Evo and WRX on the equal "dudebro" playing field. The biggest bag of douches drive VW's anyway,

Lol. I completely agree. Around here those bags also drive the Subaru with the hoods off, meet in parking lots and talk about their hypothetical ex girlfriends

I would buy a subie in a heartbeat if the world was my oyster and I would give zero f*cks that 99% of other subie drivers seem like douche bags because that's just ridiculous to not buy a car just because of a stereotype. If you were Looking to seriously modd it in the fututre like over 500 hp I would definitely get the evo over an sti though. I agree with felix, from what I have seen evos last better with "high" hp builds.

The Evo had an MR model at a 2010-ish auto show. Fairly certain Mod Ready is what Mitsu tagged it. Dunno if they still make them.

Since it's kinda daydreaming anyway, our other car of choice was a used Dodge. I know, I know ..but the V6 w/AWD option Charger is attractive in Minnesota. I wouldn't be getting any low ET's, lol.

Another good car around subie price range is a used g35/g37. I almost had one for my first car, uncle was selling it for a friend, 2011 g37x with only 27k miles for $7300. I didnt buy it because it was a grand over my budget and I had no clue how to drive stick. Im still regretting it. You can find higher mileage ones for a little bit more, but from what I read they are pretty reliable, except until something does need replacing then it cost a bit. Although only experience I know is my boss needing new tail lights, was apparently charged a bit over $450 for two.

I don't doubt some signage around the car at the show said mod ready, but MR stands for Mitsubishi Racing. Previous gen Evo's had MR's available too. MR's don't get any more power from the factory, but for the Evo X they get a SST trans, upgraded suspension, BBS wheels, etc.

Thank you for the correction. The big huff at the show was over the newly available dual clutch paddle-shifters and AWD electronics. That engine was a generational change, but would take more boost.

The rag (magazine) probably stated "larger turbo" somewhere and that became Mod Ready in my memory.

I was distracted by the revamped Viper and GT-R's, in-your-face advertising. The GT-R's booth was very good that year, iirc.
