I just wanted to be sure it is ok to put an engine from a 2004 comp g into a 2007 supercharged?? I pretty sure it is but I'm not sure if there are different harnesses or connectors anywhere. The one from my comp g has 170k and the one in the 2007 has 194k. I'm stil contemplating just saying f-it and leave the higher mileage engine in and selling the comp g one with everything else from the car. Any thoughts??

well I'm putting the Comp G motor in the 2007. The 07 motor is rough. What timing chain would you guys use? I was looking at the Cloyes set. I want to cam it while it's out but money isn't right now so I will have to stick with the 1.8 roller rockers.

you'll need to use the 07 tb and pick what blower looks better as far as rotor coating goes and use that one.

other then that, its a direct swap.

engines a engine, use what you got i say. as long as its on hand and free. id try not to go and buy one with that high a miles....

Cool. That's what I thought. Just wanted to be sure. My comp g engine is very clean so I'll definitely use that one. I'll check the supercharger rotors and use the best. I'll just put a new chain on it while it's out. Thinking about getting the heads cleaned and checked also.

Yeah maybe I will stick with the rockers then. What chain do you recommend? I still have stock springs. Should I just get a new set of stockers or upgrade??

with rockers you want new springs, some 90 lb'ers will do. you'll need new retainers with them as well.

the chain im not sure, someone will chime in with whats worked best.

Ok. I'll grab some 90# springs. Suitercrew has a double roller for sale but that may be overkill for my set up. Hey with the self port did you get the head gasket surface professionally resurfaced or did you just put it back together?

cleaned em up and slapped em back on lol working fine still. hf has a gasket cleaning kit. has rotary pads you put on a drill and clean away. did the same for the block, piston tops as well. my engine is a l36, the pistons had like 3 mm of carbon built up on them all.

wish i got a pic before starting to clean them, one cleaned up nice, 5 to go. lol they were all scrapped clean with a razor first.

my old engine had no carbon build up at all. but a chipped piston must be them na guys running 87 octane. chipper theres got 238,000 miles on her, the na black 110,000.

Awesome thanks for the help!! I will look into that cleaning kit. I also have an Eastwood store 3 minutes away from me. They have awesome porting kits available.

ebay might be the cheaper way to get the porting bits. you want dual carbide bits and a few different shapes. then read the how to here and watch a load of yt vids so your not going in blind. its nice to see it being done too.

The one that's already on the motor.

To me it's a pointless thing to change, they are always loose and new stock chains will have similar play.

There isn't a coating on the stock pistons that I have to worry about is there? I'm a bit nervous porting my own heads. Do you completely strip the heads or leave some of the components in there?? I'm not sure about the lifters and valves, whether to replace them while I am in there or not. I thought I read somewhere that they need a special tool but that may have been for another type of head. I'll definitely look up some videos, work doesn't allow youtube so i have to wait until later.

    .........

I noticed some things a bit different on the 07. A few of the sensors are different. the oil pan is different, it contains a bracket and the windage tray is integrated into the oil pan. It also only uses RTV for a gasket which is good. I'll definitely use the 07 oil pan instead. The subframe looks different but I assume it is the same shape and fit as the 04. There are probably a few other things I will need to swap over also.

AL pan fits like normal. if you got one use it. iirc your supposed to use that grey rtv on the pan. id still seal them bolt threads.

any sensors that are not the same, just swap them from the other engine.

I looked into having the heads professionally done and its over $150 a head. Sooo, I will be doing them myself. I bought the fel pro head gaskets. ill just clean the heads and block as much as I can with solvent and a plastic scraper. I could not find a kit for resurfacing heads. I did see a way with a fine sharpening stone i may try.

does anyone know of any detailed instructions on re seating the valves (lapping) ??

Lapping valves is very easy. Watch some YouTube videos and you'll get the idea. When I did them, it was my first time, and they turned out great. Although, the wood handle would not stick to my valves, so I used my thumb instead. Still turned out great, exhaust valve may need a little more attention.
