So as the title says, I found a place less than an hour away that has a dyno that's willing to let me come In Friday and get some numbers! I'm super pumped for the massive amount of disappointment that's coming but it gives me an idea of where I stand and where I really want to be. It could also give everyone else an idea of what can be gained with some of the more minor/popular mods. So here's the car and mods/maintenance that have been performed and I'd like to hear some estimates on what you think the numbers will show. It's an 01 gt coupe, it has around 500 miles on a fully rebuilt trans. It has new intake gaskets, new plugs, 8mm wires, Ls7 Lifters, magnaflow cat, u-bend delete, resonator delete, front plog, dynomax turbo mufflers, cxracing (I think) fender well intake, And a mail order tune. I have a cam but who knows when I'll actually get that done, I keep picking a time frame but it keeps changing anyway what should I expect? I'm eager to see 180 but I'm always unrealistic.

Yes, with the correction factory all setup correct and the 15-20% drivetrain loss will put in the 160's.

The only things really helping you is the plog and tune. The rest of the exhaust isn't as huge of an issue when the NA 3800 doesn't make a lot of power. Toss some 91+ octane in the tank prior to going there and that should help keep knock down.

I'm really crossing fingers for 170+ so then maybe I can see 180 after an hv3 and 200 after the cam then turbo and be 300+ then start saving to rebuild the trans for the second time I run 92 every fill up.

I found the website with the 167 on a stock l36 and u bend here are some pics. Giving myself some blah gains on my plog (5?), intake(2-4?), and tune (2-3?) I would like to shoot for around 174-177

Edit- I'm a newb and retract my above "proof" it seems that is a generated dyno result made by crunching numbers, not an actual dyno run. But 200 × 0.20 is 40 leaving 160 and if a u bend can be proven to gain 5 and the claims on a plog are 10 (but we will just say 5 because claims are claims) and minimal gains from the tune and intake I'd still like to think I'd be right above 170. But I suppose there's only one way to really know. I'm just going to be super butt hurt about it. And even more butt hurt when I post the proof here and you give me the ol' I told ya so.

Usually for 3 pulls its about $100-$120. I'm not sure what kind of tune they woulf do for the remainder but about all thats worth messing with are trans settings and fans. I'll throw down a guess of 140hp. When I dynoed my car stock it was only 210/230 with greater than 9.6:1 AFR.

140! That would be 30% drive train loss! A stock gtp puts down in the 190's and that equals out to be 20% that means a gt would do 160' s @ 20% loss. I have a low mileage car that's been rebuilt already so I doubt I'm seeing the 30% loss thst would probably come with a car that's seen 250k. Anyhow, the tune would involve them playing with spark advance and afr They said, I dunno honestly I feel like I could give one of you guys 200 for a tuner and do it myself as many times as I want. I'm going to call a couple places in the cities tomorrow and see if I can just get a couple pulls a bit cheaper. I'll drive the extra hour if I can do a couple pulls under 150. 300 seems like alot to see sub 200 numbers.

You asked for guesses, i guess 140. My gtp was bone stock and those were the numbers. Im skeptical of "Low mileage" and "rebuilt already". They can play with the timing and AFR all they want, but it's not going to pick up much. Do you think if my bone stock GTP had went from fatter than 9.6:1 to 11's would i have picked up 20 hp? Just saying dont get your hopes up. You shoul be able to get 3 pulls for $120 or so. who are you going to give $200 for their tuner?

I see dhp's on here all the time for under 300 is what I mean, and I mean that my car started with 127k before I had to do a full rebuild on the trans and have had to do lifters and pushrods. My hopes are not to high, sorry wasn't trying to sound like a douche my knowledge is relatively low especially when it comes to the l36. I completely agree I should have just bought a l67 car if I wanted to make power, it just wasn't in the cards at the time and now I got what I got. I appreciate your input though.

Don't let them tune it, most shops don't know the 3800's very well.

You are better off buying a DHP tuner for $280ish all said and done instead of paying for a tune. I doubt that dyno place could get more than a couple horsepower out of the nearly stock engine.

DB performance where I live in Rogers here is something like $100 for 3 dyno runs with print outs now, used to be $75 a while back.

Ha, I believe they are on my list, I was just trying to get someone closer and this place just happens to be in Springfield less than 50 miles away. But I do have to be in maple grove next Monday just wasn't planning on taking the 01 but i could make the exception.

If you are going to dyno it stock do it stock. You can't quantify any gains without a baseline.

True, I guess I was just using the 200 - 20% as a base line, but after some research I have seen that 145-155 is what has been proven on a stock l36 so when I get 160 I shouldn't be disappointed . This is just convincing me more and more forced induction is mandatory to get where I want, by no means do I think in wasting my time or money, we have to work with what we have and what we are capable of doing. I found a cartuning kit that's a few hours away and if I move some finances around might be an option soon, does anybody know if this is a member on here? http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/an...848678379.html

If you have to " move some finances around" i wouldn't turbo the car unless you put a few thousand into a triple edge transmission. it doesnt matter that your current trans is rebuilt because its rebuilt on stock parts and a turbo will eat the trans up, Im on my 3rd transmission and im N/A lols.
with my car I just did a mod here and a mod there over the last 5-6 years, I even had a topswap ready to put on but I sold it and kept my car as reliable as it can be.
I bought 95% of my mods used from this forum. so keeping it n/a was cheap, and if I ever blowup this engine, i can throw in a l67 engine in the car and transfer all my mods over.

    3.8l N/A POWA! :4'' HAI\L67 HVTB\HV3\ER Rockers\WP underdrive pulley\Headers\cat delete\91 octane overkill incar tune.3.69 gears, Trans go shift kit.

I figured I will have to build the trans, the plan was to turbo by the end of next summer at that point I would have be at a point that I could look into trans options, to turbo sooner would mean moving some finances around I honestly need to buy a reliable daily before I take this one to that point, I just thought that kit was a good deal and i could take from my car fund to buy it.
