The front hub nut on the end of the axle spun off, luckily my son saw it. Heading to get a socket, can someone tell me the torque spec on that thing?

Dealer just replaced the hub, got to get it back together to get it back to the dealer.

    Thanks!

There is no cotter pin holes on axle shafts, not on a 3800 axle that I've seen.

Glad I asked, I would not have thought that much, 118 it is. Yep, no cotter pin.

ive seen the gamut of ~120-140ish ftlbs, seems to be whatever number they pulled out of a hat cause they all use the same bearing/outer tulip

Old specs were 150 or so, and current specs are 118 or so. I've used both, and bearings failed with both torque settings.

If you used All-Data the only year that was ever 159 ft lbs was 2001 but 97-00 was 118 and same with 2002+. No idea why that is and this was 3-4 years ago when I still could use it. Even any of the other w-body and H-body cars that use the same bearings got either the same tq spec or a slightly different.

There shouldn't be if it's the same site used but it comes down to what version you are using.

Mitchel has it at 118ft lbs. Chiltons and Haynes manuals I don't even bother looking at for specs, as they can differ so much. I don't torque anything down anyway unless it's a super important like head studs, internal engine parts, lug nuts. Everything else gets the brap brap with my impact gun or my perfected german torque spec.

much like setting up most bearings when new... I shoot for the high spec, when reassembling used I go for the low spec.

Pinion bearings carrier bearings you name it
