I've read this too many times here. Probably broke forward band. It goes at random times.

Yup..forward band. which..is the second piece that goes into a trans during a fresh build

they are going to whack you to pull the trans, then disassemble, fix the band...maybe rebuild the rest while it's out and then drop it back in. I've seen it around $1200-$3500.

not sure what you should pay, I learned how to fix the problem on my own and heck..my labor is cheap.

I checked the fluid as well it's a lil bit of a light brown. Worth even dropping the pan for filter n fluid change at this point? I can manually shift from 123D. Starting in 1 of course. Thanks

The band is broken. You can confirm it for us once you drop the pan. But in reality the only one that is semi hopeful that it isn't is you. That's not a knock.. it's just the truth.. we have seen so many, it's a given.

Sorry. A used trans would probably cost less than rebuilding, but again you take a chance

Thinking about taking it over to the Eastside of the state where my family is. As my grandpa use to run his own car lot and has a few connections. Should I tow it there or drive it? Can it cause anymore harm? Thanks

it cant get any worse then it is now. the whole tranny needs to come apart to fix that band, why most people will just get a rebuild.

some shops are pretty shady, they fix whats broken and call it rebuilt, if your paying 1800 plus make sure they install new clutch packs and common electronic parts that fail seals and such.

Thanks. Yeah that's what I figured. Will be nice to have a rebuilt trans. Esp since the car is well taken care of and I don't plan to sell anytime soon either. Thanks

There is one in the FS section ironically... Should I pass it up since the electronics aren't new?

I'd trust Brandon to build a trans, he's a good guy. Well known and willing to help/teach others through how to threads like I am. Therefore I'd back him. Heck, a few of the tools he's using to build transmissions, he bought from me. Some would think that makes the transmission better somehow. lol

I was able to get it scheduled and done from a shop my grandpa has used for years for 18-2200. With 1 year warranty. Anything helpful I can have him add while he's doing the full rebuild. Transgo shift kit?

1600 is the cheap one at tep, but thats not including labor to swap it.

Labor is free if you do it yourself! I wouldn't just jump the gun and spend that kind of money at just any shop because that's who grandpa uses.

Ensure they are replacing all clutches and steels, that they will clearance the clutch packs and not just toss in the correct number of each per the GM book. You'll want a hardened 4th clutch hub shaft and a replacement EPS aka pressure soleniod.

Ok thanks. Also i looked into TEP hps1 its a lot more then what the website tells you. Almost 2k just for tranny then ship is 195 plus core fee and you either ship your orig tranny again for 195, or just take their core and you don't get a slip to ship your orig back for free then either install yourself you're sutting around 2500, or a shop then you're well over 3k. Not as cheap as it appears...
