Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
ill try to see if i can get those out.
I have a bit of an issue with the hf 2 ton hoist. i accidentally removed the screw and oil splurted out (not much) I bought some hydraulic oil and applied to the bottom of fill hole but nw when i crank it it doesnt move(it did before). I know im doing something wrong here.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
pics of the hoist jack and fill hole you used. if you cant get it to work, bring it back to hf and get another one, you got 90 day warranty.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
yeah im not wasting my time with it anymore i filled it with proper oil and im getting 0 resistance back to hf forgot i need a proper chain and hooks too.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
they sell a leveler for like 30 bucks at hf its 4 chains off a bar and a crank to lever the load out.

Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
lol you need to bleed the ram, yo done gots air in it now.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
So I got a different jack, I know it was probably an easy noob like fix but building the dam thing then finding out it wasnt pumping frustrated the hell out of me. Luckily they switched it out for another jack(red one). I tested it out works as it should, removed my hood anndd sunlight was gone. So tmrw im lifting in the am really crossing my fingers something isnt still holding it to frame.
Scotty, I saw that chain at hf before purchasing I tried using a steel cable and wrapping it around 4 points on the top/middle level of engine(beneath brackets at top by valve cover and same at the other side). It lifted the engine pretty well balanced. I wonder how its gna balance with the trans attached. I should be fine as long as long as some guides it as i lift, i hope.

if your engine is locked up, you'll need to buy new tc bolts.
I just remembered this part, I didnt actually remove the starter i just disconnected the wire and put nuts/bolts back on. Is this something i can do when its pulled?
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
it can, but take it off now. its easier, take the plastic cover off between the engine and tranny, then the two starter bolts, its heavy watch it dont hit you in the head lol
once its out you'll need the bolts holding the tranny to the engine too. but take the tc bolts out first.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
i dont know about cable. get a chain and bolt it to the sides of the heads diagonal across the engine.
engine and tranny is like 500 lbs easy, its not light. full engine is just over 300, trannys got to be around 200

Darn i was hoping the first thing i would do tmrw morning is pull that puppy. somehow leaving it on seems easier to me right now lol but ill pull it out if thats whats best. I was looking at the rep engine to see where these tc bolts may be located not looking forward to this part tbh
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
you cant get to the cover bolts when its on the ground. id not want to work on it hanging off a hoist.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
Pardon for asking for the over clarification but are the cover bolts and tc bolts the same thing?
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
tc bolts= torque converter bolts, attached to the flywheel visible through the small access hole on the bottom where the engine and trans meet.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
Are the cover bolts connecting this plastic piece between the engine and trans? I know you guys are familiar with these locations but I'm blind to most of this unfortunately
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
There are just 2-3 little 10mm bolts holding the plastic cover on and that's it.
Then there are the torque converter bolts themselves that you'll remover.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
Got it. Where is the best place to access this cover? Under front, from top driver side? So far all I know is it's a plastic cover, is it by the starter since you've mentioned accessing tc bolts after?
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
Wait a min. You want to take the motor and trans as one piece... so you wouldn't pull these out at the moment. Hence.. why they should be missing from the write up.
Edit.. went back, you'd be pulling them to use them on the next motor. Do it on the ground once it's out. Much easier when you don't have to be under a car.
Once it's out and the starter is removed. The bolts are cake.

Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
what i was saying, the cover, then the starter, then take the tc and trans to engine bolts after the engine is pulled out.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
Ok fellas thanks for clarification out she comes in a bit.
Re: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)
Its finally pulled out. Before mating the trans to engine and pretty much comparing and contrasting what needs to go on the new combo is there anything specific i should look out for?
