Thread: Swaping engine and trans from top ( first timer)

engine hoist is cheaper lol you can rent them too.

even if you take 3 days getting it done, your ahead of the game on the cost. and then got the satisfaction of saying, look what i did...

being your doing both engine and tranny, you can ull both from the top together, or un hook it all take the sub frame bolts out, then you lift the front of the car up with the hoist and theres your engine and tranny on the sub frame still.

cant seem to find a how to for out the botom, but found some pics. you need to un hook the same things engine wise, aka wires, then un bolt and free the rack from he frame, un bolt the struts from the top clear all the wiring p/s lines and stuff, then lift the car up and you can drag the frame with engine and tranny out from under the car, then do all the swap work in the clear.

i just kept the nuts and bolts with what ever parts came off, put the bolts in the holes to keep em safe and in place for your memory.

loose bolts got grouped together on the windshield cowl, what GM made that shelf for. wire plugs only go one place, when you lay the harness back over the engine the plugs tend to lay right where they came from, i even had a injector plug land dead on the injector, all i had to do was push it on. aka putting all the plugs back on is mindless really.

in LA iirc there are shops you can rent a bay from, all tools and a lift by the day. iirc it was like 125 a day? you may want to look that up. could make life much easier in the end.

they are diy shops, all they do is rent space with tools and lifts.

as for working in your garage, if you back in and work near the door, take note how high the garage door is, my friends garage where i did my swap has a high door, like 8 foot high. most standard doors the hoist will hit the door.

the one listed will cover you fine. very few things are changed. like the tb has no cables, and theres only one fuel line to the rail. likely about it

You are pulling each piece seperately, which isn't outlined in the thread. follow the thread to nearly a T and you can have a motor swap done in say 6-8 hours first time out.

I've bought so many JY motors it's silly. Out of probably 50+ I had one bad one, and they treated me right on that one when I called and nicely mentioned it.

The thread won't mention your secondary air injection. Pop one of the plastic clamps and the rubber hose. That will be plenty to get it out. Just ensure you move over that rear manifold and it's associated crap if the new one doesn't have it.

Sorry..probably should have gone back and changed those to the full words. You know though...when you've done it too many times...it can sometimes feel too second nature to use the abb's

Based on your picture.. I'd push her outside and flush the heck out of the heater core and radiator. Those coolant ports are disgusting.
