Need help trouble shooting my performance shift button and wanted to know if anyone has a link or diagram that would help. I have tried searching here and google and no luck. I found a ton of related issues but they all ended up being something simple.

I know most of you guys think the perf shift is useless but my pcm was set up to only activate the performance tune settings when its in perf mode. Without it working i have a stock car as far as the pcm is concerned.

I know yall have heard this a hundred times lol. If I push the button I hear a very light click and the word performance flashes on the dash display but does not stay lit. I pulled the center console apart and the button wires look good and are connected.

I fully expect to be given crap for this but any help would be appreciated. Im just hoping someone has already been there, done that and knows what I should try.

the button maybe bad. can you see if it stays in or not? i know mine does, but it stays in just a little bit.

i also have the perf shift part of the tune set up with the 6000 rpm shift points, shifts stock with it off.

The wires may look good, but the only way to be certain the switch is working properly it to check it with a multi meter.

Ok. I just assumed when it clicks that it's working lol. I'll check the button when I get home. I do have a good multi meter so I'll just check through the button with the car off to see if it makes and breaks like it should.

if you dont have it you can add it. you need it turned on in your tune, then a new pinned wire installed in the the pcm to a switch.

it was standard on sc cars with the hd tranny only. then it went away.

Sorry guys. Ive had a bad few weeks and have been crazy busy, and broke a damn tooth in half! anyways, it turns out that the button is bad. It wont stay engaged when I push it in. With the car off, I push the button and can hear a click and then when I let go, a slight crunchy click happens.

I assume that it is just a spring loaded make and brake switch. So I could just cut the wires and run them to a basic flip on/off switch anywhere right?

or get another shiftier knob. where my button is in a regal, not so sure bout you gp people. if its on the dash a toggle switch should work fine, but a factory button will look way better i think.

parts stores have all sorts of on/off buttons too. id hit a junk yard first tho.

Mine is also a thumb push on the shifter. That would look better but it seems like a pain in the ass to change lol.

you can go to the junkyard and pull an entire shifter assembly its not that hard to remove the console

just the knob and button will come off the stick. no need to do a whole swap.

ive seen em for sale in some older threads.

and theres a thread or two with a shortened shift stick, shows how the knob comes off.

    Shift knob upgrade..... http://chrisb.users.superford.org/Gr...hift_Knob.html

I don't have it hooked up, but it gets "clicked" a lot when I am waiting at stop lights. LOL
