Lots of cars to choose from out there. Why did you get a GP? Would you do it again?

I'm looking for one, wanted to see if my reasons matched up with yours.

Look decent, decent power, good highway mpg, easy to fix.

I'd only buy another if I went to AZ or something to get it.

I was looking for any supercharged W-body, and I would have preferred a Regal, but I couldn't find a nice GS in my area for a LONG time. A decent un-modded GTP popped up on Craigslist and I snagged it. I just wanted something with the L67 in it.

Why did I chose the Grand Prix?...
1.) Pretty low price of admission for a boosted vehicle
2.) Cheap to fix - The junkyards around here are overflowing with C, G, H and W-bodies
3.) Very forgiving for a DIY or just learning shade tree mechanic
    4.) 4 Doors because, kids

Would I do it again? That depends...
If all things were the same, sure. I feel good about my choice. No regrets.

Will my next vehicle be a GP, nope. I cut my teeth on the one I've got now and I love it, but the next car will be a RWD with a stronger trans.

At the time, it was all that was on the market that met my needs.

    Would you do it again?
Possibly. Depends what is available when I am in the mood to buy.

I liked the idea of a supercharger and a 4 door reliable car. Then parts started showing up at my house and then there was a turbo kit, then boom goes the everything and now I have my '10 cobalt!

Sentimental, they were new when I was in high school, also loved my buddies 2001 turbo impala, and have worked on a few wbody cars over the years. I had a regal GS, I thought I was getting a deal on this car since it only had 73k miles on it and I wanted a cheap beater that was $4k-$5k. So now I have it.

Used to own a Ford Supercoupe SC and wanted another supercharged v6. This time I had kids so a 4 door was what I needed. Park Ave was giving me more problems than I care to mention and decided to buy a GTP.

Not much I could afford at 18. Wanted a 4 door, somewhat spacious. Decently low mileage, didn't want someone else's project. Insurance had to be reasonable. GP fit that bill, I remembered years prior my bro rented one and had it for awhile and I just loved it, I was looking for a Monte Carlo SS first but couldn't find within a reasonable distance that wasn't best to sh*t or overpriced, before I settled on the comp g that I still have I found a 04 base, red, tan cloth etc, 20k more miles and price was higher then what I ended up getting the comp g for. Stumbled.. Well actually my sister spotted it that next day at a small local dealer and I just had to have it. Worked out fine, wouldn't change that.

Because it was free?? All I had to do was R&R a trans in my brothers 97 F150 and my payment was my 00 GPGT. Needed some work but nothing out of the ordinary. Then I aquired a 95 Bonne for the same price after I put a bunch of work into it for the previous owner. She wanted it to go to a good home after she bought a new car so she gave it to me. Still have both and rack up the miles daily. The GP has some goodies accumulating for it (no go fast, but its N/A so no cares), and the Bonnie is just as reliable now with some new parts. Both are decent on mileage, cheap parts and not terrible to look at. All 4 doors so plenty of room for the kiddo and friends.

I got my gp se because it was only 1000 bucks, never even gave grand prixs a thought before that, now I have two (well technically 4, I have two parts cars)

Would I do it again? Hell yeah, only downside is these cars are automatic only. That's why I'm doing a 5 speed swap in my gtp.

I always liked the GP's, there was a guy in town with an SE when they first came out and I loved that car. Then I dated a girl in high school whose older sister had a GTP and I was sold from there.

    How'd you guess? haha

Also, as far as buying another one, once I sell my Corolla I am going to look at picking up a 97-03 GTP Sedan for a daily.

The 97-02 GP coupe is the only FWD car with looks I can tolerate. 3 of them so far. The Buick V6 was a good engine. The fact that you almost have to pay people to drag one away was also a draw.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.
