Alrighty, i have a 2000 GTP with the 3.8L Supercharged engine. It had the low fuel pressure code when you checked the check engine light. Despite the light on, it was running great until i was sitting in it idle at work one day. It chugged hard and died. Tried to restart it and it chugged and died immediately. Had it towed home bc it was February and snow on the ground so i couldnt fix it until mid April. (Dont have a garage).

We changed: the fuel pump bc the old one would only give a 2lb reading when you rested the pressue, and it came with an updated plug assembly so we spliced that on per the diagram. Also changed the fuel pressure sensor that sits on top of the fuel pump, the fuel filter, the air filter, the battery, the vacc line, and we cleaned the MAF sensor. The new pump gives out a reading of 44lbs. It still wont stay running. It starts, runs for 30 seconds to a minute, then dies with a very soft chug.

At first we thought it was the fuel pump not getting power, so my buddy brought his meter over and checked all the fuses and relays and wiring on the pump, and it was getting power, he double checked that i had the wiring right and i did. Then he undid a small thin tube by my fuel rail to see if gas was getting to the engine & it was. Then we started to think it was the PassKey III system giving me trouble so he rigged a temporary bypass to it and even with that, the car wont stay running. Still starts and runs for 30s-1min and dies with a soft chug. So now we are stuck. Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

if you took the vac line off the round part on the fuel rail, thats the fuel pressure regulator BTW, and gas came out the vac line you need a new fpr.

not a pass key issure for sure, the security light would be on if it was.

you can also try this, the hi speed fuel pump resistor takes a dump, this bypasses it.

Just went outside and popped the hood for sh#ts and giggles...my fpr has some corrosion on it so im going to guess you are definitely right and that needs replacing. Luckily theyre only like 50 bucks and my guy gets discounts at PepBoys and he uses Rock Auto a lot too.
