ya so i clay bared and waxed my gp last week and over the week i must have parked under a tree or something and now there is sap all over my hood
any suggestions as to the safest way to remove this crap?

Well, the first thing I would try is WD-40.I haven’t had sap on my car for ages so I can’t say it will work for sure. Anyway, WD-40 is harmless and you probably have some lying around so why not try it.

Have you ever got WD40 on your paint? Do you know how hard that stuff really is to get off...its like spraying tire shine on your fender.

I've used "GOO GONE" on customer's sap problems. This only works if the sap is still soft however. Won't harm paint, lots of other uses too. Sold at Lowes and maybe Walmart.

there is a local store in my area called meijer's and in there automotive dept. they have tree sap/bug remover for around 5 dollars (auto zone has it too).
if you spray it on and let it soak for a minute or two then rub it out it will be gone in a couple minutes.
I use it alot as I park under a pine tree so I know where you coming from

alcohol is the best and it is mixed with water so that it doesnt evaporate as fast. Never put anything oil based on your paint....ever.

I usually use denatured alcohol and it takes it rite off, without harming paint

Another good trick to use on the really hard tree sap that is really difficult to get off is using a razor blade. It has to be really sharp and you cannot use it on any convex angles. This is an excellent way to ruin your paint with deep scratches if not done right. You have to hold the razor at a very low angle so that the sharpest edge of the razor is held just off the surface of the paint. Do not attempt this if you do not understand this last statement. You will seriously damage your paint. The thin residue left behind is much easier to clean up than the thick drop that you started with.
