Thread: Easy Parking Brake question.

Can anyone that lives in a place that doesn't have multiple feet of snow show me what part this is? (2004+)

My guess is it's just a piece of foam or rubber, not something I care to spend $12 on.

Parking brake seized up and with all the snow we got, I had no idea I was dragging my ass end until I got on a main road and suspiciously had no power. Bought all 3 new cables and the tensioner/equalizer already. Other then that insulator, I think that's all I'll need.

I think that insulator is the rubber piece on the left side of the part that connects the cables and holds them from rubbing on each other. Here's how it all goes together on an 04+ I have 08 knuckles and calipers with new brake cables and I reused the center piece and the rubber insulator thingy.

Thanks Bill. That's got to be it, and looks like it's reusable if it's still on there.

FWIW we have a ton of snow and I didn't crawl under for that. I have a ton of pics from when I put the car together.

Brand new calipers @ end of July. The parking brake cables were pretty chewed up from the incompetent dealer**** not adjusting the super rusty equalizer/tensioner when they changed a caliper so I'm pretty sure water is getting in the sheathe and freezing because the brake won't release when it's cold. If I let it warm up they work fine.

I think I grabbed my equalizer from a JY that looked mint. Then when I put it all together, I put a ton of grease all over the threaded rod, nut and cable ends etc.

Looks like the revised design of the equalizer doesn't use that insulator anyway, which explains why no one carries them.

I'd also bet that piece was nothing more than a "it'll never rub in 500,000 miles if we put this here.
